Callison smiled until she got home. Her brother, who was apologizing to his girlfriend on the phone for him over-sleeping and being late on his date, rolled his eyes and continued talking to his girlfriend on the phone.
Callison kept on checking her phone as she got to her room but no texts or missed calls were recorded. She was getting annoyed.
"What was Sky supposed to tell me?" She wondered again.
She was becoming a bit too curious about it. She had practically become too caught up with it that she didn't notice her phone ringing.
It continued ringing but to no avail. Callison lay down on her bed and closed her eyes. The ringing of her phone turned into a distant blur to her as she was engulfed by her thoughts and drifted to sleep.
Sarah, who was walking home with Penny at that time, looked sad. She remembered a bitter memory.
I'm sorry, Sarah. But I can't do this any-
"Earth-to-Sarah. You there, girl?" Penny waved her hands infront of her face and she was jerked back to reality.
"Are you thinking about him, again?" Penny crossed her arms.
"Maybe a little." Sarah pouted.
"Oh come on. Stop torturing yourself with the past. I know it hurts too much-"
"It hurts a lot."
"-but there's a lot of guys out there! Sheesh. This is why I don't get a love life." Penny said, obviously exasperated.
"I just hope that I don't get to see him again. I just don't want to see his face right now." Sarah blinked away her tears.
"He's not here, is he?" Penny rolled her eyes. "Besides, if he's here, I'll punch him in the face."
"Shut up, Penny. You don't even know what he looks like." Sarah said jokingly as she punched her lightly in the arm.
"I could make a wild guess and just punch the first guy you look at." Penny cracked her knuckles.
"I'd rather not see a passive bystander with a bruise on his face because I was looking at him." Sarah laughed.
"Good. Cause I'd totally do it."
"I know. But for some reason, I think I'm forgetting something." Sarah pondered. "It's probably not important."
An eerie silence followed Sarah's words.
"I hope I don't see Callison cry." Penny said out of the blue.
"Where did that come from?" Sarah brushed her hair absent-mindedly.
"Well, I've been seeing Callison looking listless a bit too much. I think something bad's gonna happen with her and Sky." Penny bit her lip.
"I never got around to ask her how she met Sky." Sarah realized.
"Well, they met because of an Inter-school competition congratulatory party. Callison competed in a tennis competition. She won second place then. Well, Sky won second place in... I forgot. Whatever. Anyways, they saw each other and talked. They kept in touch and they became a thing." Penny pouted. "Callison was skeptical about the relationship at first though."
"Why?" Sarah asked.
"Her heart was broken by her supposed best friend. She never told me his name though. I never asked it. She would always look ahead while tears flowed from her eyes. I hated seeing her like that."
Sarah looked uneasy. "I had never seen Callison cry before."
"That's why it's gut-clenching to see her cry." Penny sighed. "She rarely cries."
