Chapter 7: Cell

The cell is slightly old, but definitely well-maintained. There are no bars, just walls with a heavy metal door. The floor is also iron,

That's weird, usually the floor of cells would be concrete.

There's cameras in this room, hidden, out of sight, but i know they're there, it'd be stupid to not have any.

The bed is white linen and soft, not my style at all, but it's comfortable. Sitting on it my toes just skim the ground.

My feet are shackled to the bed, firm metal clanking wherever my steps land, nausea rolls in my stomach each time i hear it, but i try to tame the feeling.

Finally, the door opens.

Butler, followed by Artemis, followed by a girl i haven't seen before with blond hair and a muscular body, tailed finally by the fairy-girl who shot me.

I eye them each as they come in. They stand in a lazy line in front of me, all getting a good look like i'm some pitiful zoo animal.

The new girl spoke first, "You're the one that beat Butler?"

I roll my eyes.

She grins, "Finally! Someone can teach me how to do it! I've been waiting for this for years!"

"She's not going to be teaching you anything yet, Juliet" Artemis says calmly. He's staring at me with curious eyes, curious and slightly caring. Artemis continues, "We will be conducting the blood test soon. We will need a sample of your blood, and your written consent of course"

I lift a skeptical eyebrow, "And who might be doing this test? i don't want a vague answer like, the fairies. I want names and descriptions"

Artemis doesn't hesitate, "A centaur named Foaly will be the main manager of your test. He is part of the staff for LEP Recon. Everyone else are just workers, scientists and medics"

I tilt my head, "Centaur? Ok. And what's this about written consent ?"

The fairy girl spoke, "We will need you to sign a document as proof of your agreement to the test"

I can't let them do the test. I know im not human, i know what i am, i just can't let them know!

"And if i don't agree? what will you do?"

Artemis waves the question away with his hand, "That doesn't matter right now" He then turns to the others. They leave without a question. Butler, somewhat hesitantly.

Artemis comes to sit on the bed with me, i shuffle aside to give him room.

It takes me a few seconds to realize what i did.

Why did i do that?

Artemis's POV

How do i get her to agree?

I sit on her bed. I notice she makes room for me, good, this is positive body language.

I start off with apologizing, "Look, im sorry for kidnapping you and dragging you into this cell. It's mean and nonconsensual" I eye her out of the corner of my eye to see her reaction, her expression doesn't change, "I just didn't know how else to get you to come with me. I needed to explain the importance of your lineage and race, but i couldn't do it out where anyone could hear."

She glares at me emotionlessly, she doesn't even look angry that she was kidnapped, "Stop with the apologies - they mean nothing to me - and get on with the fairy thing."

"Fine. Fairies are an ancient species that used to live in harmony with humans, until human greed started a war that drove them to live in secret underground"

"Sounds about right"

"Holly is an elf, one of the many fairy races. Eves have the power to heal using positive energy, she has saved our lives on more than one occasion. We want to do this DNA test on you so you can see what percentage of your blood is fairy. You might have powers that you've never noticed. Some fairies - sprites to be exact - have wings to fly, maybe you have the ability to grow wings? we're just as clueless as you" I don't tell her of the fairy ability to mesmer, i don't want her to use it to her advantage if she figures out how to use it before we determine if she's an ally or not.

She doesn't look at me for a while. I hope i convinced her, i really do, i want to learn. Is she a hybrid? or is she fully fairy? does she have a different kind of magic to normal fairies?

She finally speaks, "I still don't want to do this test, it's pointless to me. I'm living a perfectly good life, i don't need to mess it up by finding out about some hidden magic inside of me"

I shake my head. this is futile. I realize something. i'm trying to convince her by using my personal values and philosophy, not hers. I need to find out what she truly cares about and use that to convince her to sign the paper. How will i do that?

I need to think about this.

"You'll be moved to a separate room. You're not a prisoner, but i still need to keep you around for various reasons. I'll have Butler and Juliet escort you."

"where's my stuff?"

"That is on a need-to-know basis"

"Yeah, and i need to know"

I sigh, "Breakfast will be ready at 9:00, make sure to be there, i don't want you being starved"

"Who's gonna be at breakfast?"

"Me, Butler, and Juliet. Holly won't be there."

"Holly's the pretty elf lady?"

"Yes"

she bit her lip,"Is she into girls?"

"Excuse me?" What?

"Just wondering" she smiles coyly.

"Um, i'm not sure, i know she's dated men"

"Ah, well" She lays back in her bed, resting her head on her palms.

Im hesitant to ask, "You....like women?"

She nods, "I like anyone"

"Alright" I don't know what else to say so i leave.
