Chapter 8: Out

Butler wakes me up. He asks for the quality of my sleep, and i say it's good.

I need to get out of here.

Artemis never said it was a cell, but it isn't your typical rich-man's room either. I pulled up the carpet on the edge of the room where no one would notice, it's the same iron floor as the cell i was in before. There are no windows, no pencils, no electronics, nothing that would be an obvious way for me to escape.

When Butler left the night before, he had locked my door ominously, letting me know that i wouldn't be able to get out. There weren't even any bobby pins so i could pick the lock.

But i still devised a plan.

There is a camera, there has to be, someone could've been watching my every movement, so i pretended to go to sleep. I planned out my escape plan. And now I have a perfect slot of time for me to set it up.

Something tells me that whenever i would be outside this room, Butler would be accompanying me. Right now, he is my biggest obstacle, i might have gotten away from him before, but only barely, in his home turf? im not so sure, i don't even know where i am in the building, or where the front door is. of course, i'd made an estimated guess, judging by the layout of the mansion, it looks like it used to be an old English castle. Castles all had about the same blueprint most of the time, so i think i know where the front door is, but i don't want to be wrong and have Butler chasing after me.

I need to get rid of him.

Right now, Artemis would be waking up, whether he woke up before me or after doesn't matter. Butler and that Juliet girl will probably be making breakfast, it is cold out, they will want to make something warm, and serve it fresh. Holly is an adult, she will have a job to be at, and im pretty sure she doesn't live in Artemis's house. Of course, there's always the chance that someone i don't know of would be in charge of security, but i'm willing to risk it. There's only a 34% chance that someone would be at the cameras right now.

I throw open the wardrobe. Suits, suits and dresses, all formal, not even a little showy.

This won't do.

I still pull out an undershirt though, and tie the ends of the shirt under my bra without doing up the buttons so that it showed my cleavage and stomach, then i grab one of the shortest skirts with pleated cloth, and pull it on, it comes just above my knee. I look in the mirror, satisfied with what i have done.

Now for the plan.

I pick up the lamp on the writing desk and rip off the wire, then split it into two pieces with my teeth. I insert one end of the shorter length into an electrical outlet and the other end into the iron floor beneath the carpet. Then I link the other, longer wire to the floor in front of the door and onto the door handle.

(Idk if this would actually work in a real-life situation, it's just for the story alright? So, like, if there are any smart people in the comments, please tell me if this would really work)

Then i sit on the bed and wait, wait for Butler.

Someone knocks on the door at 8:56. I suck in a breath and call out,

"Come in."

I hear the jangling of keys, then something being inserted into the door handle. I had made a mental note that the key was made of Bismuth metal. Bismuth doesn't transmit electricity, but as soon as Butler touches the metal door handle....

I hear the handle about to turn, then a yell, then silence.

I tentatively open the door, and there, lies Butler, his clothes steaming. He isn't unconscious yet though, so i drop down and deliver a swift punch to his head. His eyes rolls back.

I stand up and run. My footsteps don't make a sound on the carpeted floors, just like i was trained.

I follow the layout of the building and find that i am on the third floor. I have on idea where my stuff is, so i'll have to leave it, Artemis has probably already gotten a sample of my DNA anyways, just in case i escape. He's not stupid.

I run past a storage cabinet, and take a peek inside to see if there are any items i could use as a weapon. There! a crowbar. Perfect.

I can't go down the stairs, it's too open, I take the elevator instead.

I punch the down button, and the doors immediately open for me. I hurry in, and press 1st floor.

The elevator rumbles into action, and stops at floor 2.

Dammit.

The doors open to reveal Juliet, her fists raised and a smirk across her face.

"Is someone trying to get away?"

I narrow my eyes and raise my own fists, "Yeah actually, i am, i don't fancy being kidnapped"

"Too bad"

Juliet advances into the elevator, throwing a fist forward to punch me, i easily block it with my forearm. I go for an under-cut to her stomach, she jumps back, and i grasp this chance to use my crowbar to punch upwards at the door in the elevator ceiling. It pops open with a bang, and i raise my arms and pull myself up. Half my torso is out of the elevator when she grabs my leg and pulls downwards, i wriggle my leg as much as i can, her brute force stronger than my ab muscles, my arms shake with the effort of keeping my body afloat.

What do i do?

I risk my arms giving out, and kick, hard, at her head. It doesn't knock her out like i'd hoped, but it definitely loosens her grip my skin. I push myself out of the elevator, then i untie my shirt, wrapping it around the metal line holding the elevator, and slide down it. my feet land on the first floor. I use my crowbar to pry open the elevator door, slipping out successfully.

I dash out of front door. Key one of the cars, and drive away.

Escaped. I escaped.

Im kinda hungry.
