Trigger Warning!
Blood, gore, horrible stuff.
----------------------------------------
I lay in my bed. Butler should've brought Ashly to her room by now.
Ashly. i've given up on the idea of asking her name, she can just lie anyways, but because of the lack of personal information i have about her, i can't even search for her online.
How old is she?
What's her personal life like?
Does she attend school?
Was anything that she said at the party real? or was it just more lies?
What's her end goal by denying a blood test? She says she doesn't want to mess up her life, but that contradicts everything i know about her so far, she obviously is an adventurous soul, what's her real reason?
A thought came to my head. Maybe she already knows. Maybe she already knows what she is, but doesn't trust me enough to find out, but that can't be true. She knows i am aware of the existence of faries, so why would it be a problem if i find out about her?
I decide to write something in my diary about her, something Holly told me. She said that when we first captured Morrigan, after the charming conversation in the car, Holly tried to knock her out with mesmer, but somehow, Ashly knew to look away, and was able to too. Holly said she didn't feel the magic extending from her to connect to Ashly's will, somehow, the magic just reached out but couldn't latch on, no matter how hard Holly tried.
Or, Holly could just be low on magic, it's a possibility.
~*~
I dream of her that night.
We're walking through the city together, what city? i don't know, but everyone is bustling about.
She's holding my hand. My stomach does a flip.
She's leading me forward through the crowds, they part before her, and she quickly clears a path in front of us.
"Where are you taking me?" I ask, im surprised to hear my voice carefree.
She doesn't look back, "Someplace where no one will hear us"
The words echo in the back of my head, resonating with the excitement inside of me. She starts running, and i follow her, tripping over myself, i hear her laugh, it's beautiful.
"C'mon Arty! We're almost there!"
I look up and the crowd seems to be thinning, coming to an end. All of a sudden, everything changes.
She's no longer holding onto my hand. Everything is dark, i can barely see my own hand. A light pops to life a few steps in front of me illuminating the ground a few inches around it.
I scrunch up my eyebrows, what's happening?
Another light follows suit, then another, it's lighting a pathway!
I follow the glow, leading me forward. After a while i realize that they've been walking me in a large circle, going nowhere. I throw my head back and look around in confusion, fear is now dripping slowly into my chest.
Why did the lights mark a circle?
I decide to step into the middle, walking slowly and precariously, testing every step. After a few seconds, i hear breathing, heavy, labored breathing, the breath of someone in pain. My footsteps quicken, i try to call out, but my voice dies in my throat. The breathing sounds closer and closer, finally, the tip of my foot connects with something. I stop and look down. Simultaneously, a lamp turns on above me, shining on her.
She's laying in a broken heap. Her limbs look bent in angles they shouldn't be in. She is in her underclothes and lash marks cover every inch of her skin. Some parts of her have been torn apart and split open. Her flesh shows gapping wounds on various parts of her body. Her left eye has small needle stab marks, and her right eye is missing. Her throat has choke bruises and knife cuts, matching her arms. She is shivering and bleeding profusely, her one barely good eye pleading with me, begging, begging for something, and as i watch, an invisible knife stabs a hole into her heart, twisting and making a sick squelching sound.
She convulses as much as the chains binding her wrists and ankles allow, and lets out a guttural scream. Tears stream down her cheeks like a river, is it tears or blood? When her mouth opens, i see that her tongue has been sliced in half, blood pooling out.
She spits the blood and shrieks, "Help! Help! Please! Somebody! Please! Please! Make it stop! Please!"
I turn and run, run as fast i can. The screaming doesn't stop, vibrating through air or through my head, i don't know. i cover my ears, but it does nothing, the screaming continues, getting louder and louder, tears drop from my eyes and i shut them in protest, everything is dark, i can't see. i can't feel, i can't breathe, i can only hear, hear her pleas and pain, it's consuming me, the darkness around me is infecting my heart, seeping into me, clawing it's clammy talons into me, i feel broken from the inside, i feel helpless, i don't know if it's her screams or mine anymore. I stumble and fall onto my knees. i force my eyes open and look forward to see a black tide rushing towards me, engulfing me into it's pitiless grasp.
"No!"
i lift my hand out to smack it away. letting my eyes snap open. Butler is standing at the side of my bed, his hand covering his face, he's staring at me with a wide-eyed expression, slightly shocked.
We stared at each other for what felt like eternity until he broke the silence, removing his hand from his face he said, "Breakfast is ready, Artemis"
"Did i.... strike you?"
"Yes, although i'm sure it was accidental" He's looking at me with a guarded expression, something told me he wasn't just in here because of breakfast.
"It was. I deeply apologize" I duck my head.
"No harm done" He eyes me, "Artemis, are you alright? you look paler than usual"
I glance in the mirror beside my bed, paler doesn't do my skin colour justice, i look dead, white as chalk, sweat glistening on my skin has soaked though my clothes. My bed sheets are twisted around me. Worst of all, i know that the moisture on my pillow isn't sweat, but tears.
"Just a nightmare" I mutter. Nightmare.
"I see" Butler starts to leave, "Well, it's time to get ready, it's 8:15 already, i thought i'd let you sleep in late since you didn't have any official business to attend to this morning"
"How is our guest settling in?" After my dream, i couldn't get the image of her out of my head.
"She's doing fine. Settled in very well, i woke her up just before you. She said her sleep was satisfactory"
"Good. You may leave now"
"One last thing, Artemis, she informed me that - around us - her name shall be Morrigan"
"War goddess." I translate the Irish name, "It suits her"
"That, is does"
He leaves.
