Ben spent his day on the phone with the editor of the New York times. He really wanted his proposal to be right. He didn't care how much he had to pay, he just wanted Miranda's favorite things and will you marry me on the crossword.
He came up with the idea last week when they were laying in bed. She was laying on his chest and helping him to solve the crossword. He liked the idea of her finding out he wanted to marry her by doing something they did every Sunday. It was interactive and she would never see it coming.
He didn't understand why it was such a hassle to get his proposal in there but he was a patient man and would wait it out.
Ben got up and dressed. He left their apartment and drove to the mall. Walking into the jeweler he smiled when he saw Curt.
"Hey, thank you for meeting me."
"Hey, Benji, and no problem. So this is it. You are buying a ring." Curt cheesed.
"Yeah man, she is my one. I know that whole heartily." He smiled.
"I'm happy for you. When do you plan to ask her?"
"I wanted to do something special and unique so I called the New York Times editor and asked to incorporate the proposal into the crossword. So we can fill it out together." Ben explained.
"Aww, that's so sweet." A woman behind the glass counter gushed.
"Thanks." Ben smiled at her.
"Are you nervous?" Curt questioned.
"Yeah I mean, I know she loves me but I also know that she has been married and I worry that she might not want to go down that road again. Although, she never said that she doesn't want to get married again but it could be a possibility."
"I believe that she will be ecstatic and say yes. She really does love you and she acts like your wife already. I watched her at Sunday dinner." He chuckled.
"Okay, let's take a look at these rings."
"Did you have an idea of what you're looking for?"
Ben turned towards the counter and looked at all the rings. The display of rings was an impressive one with row upon row of custom-made settings each with a unique diamond. The top shelf held a variety of gold settings while the bottom shelf held white gold.
"I want something that looks like dam that's a big ring and her man loves her. I also want to be able to look at her and see my ring and feel like everybody knows she's taken and that's all mine."
The woman behind the counter chuckled. "I'm definitely sure I can help you out with that. What's your price range?"
"Above 5 thousand." Ben voiced.
"Okay well let's slide over to this case. This one is 5 thousand up to 10 thousand."
Ben nodded and looked inside the case. His eyes swept across the case and his eye caught a beautiful ring.
It was captivating circle-shaped diamonds brilliantly framed, the center gem in the classic three-stone engagement ring.
"I want that one." Ben pointed to it in the case.
"Ahh yes, that is called our trillion three-stoned rings. It's 8,500. The center diamond is 2 carats and the two on the side are 1/2 a carat. So all together its 3 with Vs2 clarity" She informed.
"Okay."
"The band is 18k white gold and that will total about 1500. So you are spending 10,000 plus tax."
"That's totally okay with me." He told her.
He sat with Curt and they talked and filled out the information before he paid for the ring. He knew it probably would have to be resized but it was still so exciting and nerve-racking.
