The next morning Miranda got up putting on jeans and one of the hospital's shirt. "Get up Ben. So we won't be late." Miranda woke him walking out to go make them some coffee. They were silent in the car until Ben finally broke the ice. "Miranda, can we talk about it now?"
"What is there to talk about? You are leaving me for four years and you already made that decision without even mentioning it to me." Miranda scuffed, thinking about it more was putting her attitude on one thousand.
She got out of the car and they walked together to the locker room. They changed into their scrubs and as Miranda walked to the E.r. Ben tried to convince Miranda the whole time about getting married and having a commuter relationship.
He couldn't help but follow her to the pit. "Miranda It's a thing. People are together but they live apart. Live apartners. It's common enough to have a name."
"Syphilis is common enough to have a name. Doesn't mean I want it." Miranda returned putting her gloves on and preparing for the rig.
"Who doesn't want what?" Callie asked.
"Somebody.." Miranda said nodding her head towards Ben. "got themselves a surgical internship in Los Angeles."
"I'm branching out." Ben voiced with a smile.
" congratulations." Torres smiled. Miranda gave her an "I wish you would" look.
"Or not."
"It wouldn't be the first commuter marriage on the planet." Ben voiced close by her ear.
Callie gasped before saying "you're getting married. Oh, that's fantastic" She chimed with a bright smile.
Miranda once again gave her the look.
"Okay, you should probably Leave while you can."
"I'm going because my love is strong enough to handle the space," Ben said into her ear before walking away.
Callie gave her the run down on how she missed Arizona and Miranda thanked God as the rig pulled up.
Miranda sat in surgery and listen to Teddy talk to Owen about Henry dying and why she wouldn't leave Owen because of her loyalty. She listened as they talked and she thought about Ben. He was supposed to be loyal to her. She wasn't mad at him for choosing the job because she would have jumped at the chance to go but where was the respect, courtesy, and loyalty she was owed? They were sharing their lives together and he owed her that much just as she did him.
After her surgery. She went to go find Ben. She looked on the o.r board and saw that he should be finishing up with his.
Walking back to the O.r. she burst in and began her speech.
"You don't get to make decisions on your own without a heads up anymore. You don't say uh oh maybe I'll apply to be an intern. I'll bring it up with Miranda if anything comes of it but for now, it's my little secret between me and me. That's not your life anymore. When you are sharing your life with a person you talk to them, you think with them, you make decisions with them, you are loyal to them. You are not a free agent anymore do you understand me" Miranda lectured.
"Does this mean we are still getting married?" Ben asked smiling with his arms crossed.
Miranda showed a confused expression, she never told him no. In fact, she told him to ask her again. What did he think?
" What- I propose to you! Wearing a trench coat and a thong. Proving once again that no good ever comes from a thong. But here I am proposing again. What? You want a skywriter." Miranda yelled.
"Oh, it was clear with the coat and the thong," Ben smirked standing in front of her.
" you know what. You put a piece of string in your tail and see if you want to do it twice."
