Miranda rung the doorbell to Tucker's house. School was starting for Tuck tomorrow and Miranda wanted to drop him off on his first day.
"Hey, Miranda," Tucker greeted as he opened the door.
"Hey," she replied.
"Tuck, your mother's at the door," Tucker called out.
"Hi, you must be Tamera," Miranda smiled at the woman who walked up on the side of him. She knew Tucker had been dating her for a year now and Tucker told her when he was proposing.
"Hi, yes, it's nice to meet you" she smiled extending her hand.
"Likewise," she returned.
"Hold on I'm going to go make sure he has all of his stuff."
"He went upstairs to his room," Tamera told him.
"I've heard a lot about you Miranda,""I have heard some things about you too. Although as I'm sure you know me and Tucker only communicate when it comes to Tuck."
Tamera nodded. "I appreciate you letting me be around your son and in his life. He's a joy to have around. I really love him."
"Oh, it was no problem. I trust Tucker and I know that if you were good for him then you would be good for our son. I'm glad we all get to be happy...so you're a data analyst."
"Yes I love it," she smiled.
"I see how you and Tucker could connect. I never got with numbers like that." Miranda laughed.
"Yeah we are definitely number nerds but I know you are a nerd in a completely different route because I don't know how you could get through chemistry and anatomy."
"Yeah, I'm a nerd when it comes to science. Yall are the EM of the word STEM. I'm just the ST," she laughed and Tamera followed suit.
"Oh my goodness that's a beautiful ring you have. You're getting married?" Tamera asked looking at the huge diamond ring on her finger.
"Yes, in two months. He's an anesthesiologist turned Surgeon." Miranda answered.
"Congratulations, you both are commendable. I have never met a surgeon before until now and it's so prestigious."
"Thank you, I would say that Data analysis is prestigious as well. Black Women in STEM is extraordinary."
"Mommy!" Tuck called out hugging her legs.
"Hi honey," Miranda voiced kissing his forehead. "I love your hair cut, you look so handsome,"
"Thank you," he smiled.
"Say goodbye to your daddy and Ms Tamera."
"Bye Daddy, bye ms Tammy."
"Bye have a good first day tomorrow."
"I will,"
"Bye, you all and it was nice meeting you Tamera."
"You as well,"
The next morning Miranda made Tuck a nice breakfast and made his lunch while he ate. She was proud at her far her son came. It seemed like just yesterday he was having trouble pronouncing the k sound in words or that she was walking with him on her hip through the hospital.
Now he was a kindergartener, how had time flown this fast?
Miranda held the paper of his classroom number as she walked him down the hall and up to the door. She couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness that this was his drop-off point. No more checking on him while in daycare and stopping to eat lunch with him.
