Akira pulled her hood lower over her face as she walked through the city streets. She stopped by a street vendor and purchased a few things. As she shopped, Akira overheard some of the towns folk talking.
PERSON 1
I wonder what ever happened to her?
PERSON 2
I heard she died stopping the demons that were attacking everyone years ago.
PERSON 3
That's just a rumor. She survived.
PERSON 2
That's impossible. No one could survive something like that.
PERSON 3
Well she did.
PERSON 1
I wonder why no one's seen her since then.
PERSON 3
People have. About 7 years afterwards, people started seeing her around. But shortly after, she disappeared again.
PERSON 2
How odd.
PERSON 3
Though I have heard that there's been some random sightings here and there.
PERSON 1
Guess we'll never really know what happened to her.
Akira chuckled to herself as she continued on. She stopped by another stall. As she went about her business, Akira heard a commotion.
VENDOR
Hey you, come back here.
Akira looked over and saw a small girl being chased by someone. The girl looked back at the vendor as she kept running. Suddenly she ran into something and fell to the ground.
GIRL
Oof.
The girl looked up and saw Akira looking down at her. Scared, she franticly began backing up. The stall vendor caught up to the girl.
VENDOR
Thanks for stopping this little theif.
The vendor grabbed the young girl by the wrist and pulled her up.
VENDOR
You're coming with me. You'll see what happens to people who think it's okay to steal from me.
GIRL
No, wait, please. I'm sorry. I'll give it back.
VENDOR
Too late. Maybe if you thought before you stole from me. You wouldn't be in this situation.
The vendor began to drag the girl off.
AKIRA
Hold on a minute.
Akira took out some money and gave it to the vendor.
AKIRA
This should be more than enough to cover what the girl took. Now take the money and leave the girl alone.
The vendor looked at the money Akira gave him, then at the young girl.
VENDOR
Fine. I'll let you go this time. But you even come near my stall again and I'll cut off your greedy little fingers myself.
The vendor gave the girl a final glare as he walked away. Akira watched the vendor leave. Then she looked at the young girl. She gave her a kind smile as she squatted down to get to eye level with the girl.
AKIRA
Hey there. Looks like your a little hungry huh.
The girl shyly nodded.
AKIRA
So you got a name?
GIRL
Luka.
AKIRA
Nice to meet you Luka. My name's Akira. So where's your parents?
The girl sadly looked down as she shrugged.
AKIRA
I see. Do you live with anyone?
The girl slowly shook her head.
AKIRA
(thinking to herself) Damn another orphan.
