Chapter 6:

"You've got to be kidding, right?"

The words leave you lips, a laugh right behind them, making Chifuyu blush. He looks away, distracting himself by playing with the kitten in his lap. You have the other in yours, much calmer than its brother. Both them are a gentle gray and black, brilliant, yellow eyes clear as the two of you give them attention.

"I don't think they're bad..." Chifuyu leads off with a pout.

"Chifuyu." You laugh, chastising though no bite behind it. "You can't name them Pey and Yang. I refuse to let you do that." You giggle, brushing at the tears building in the corners of your eyes.

The cat in your lap, seemingly annoyed with the lack of attention that you're giving her, leaps up and makes her way over to Chifuyu. Her brother bats at the air before her, as if to ward her away from his own entertainment.

"I think they like it." Chifuyu states, clearly stubborn about the name choice. "What do you think, Pey?" He asks, brushing his fingers behind her ears.

He turned a satisfied smirk towards you as she mewls, as if to prove to you that she's agreed. The scene's so adorable, you can't stop yourself from pulling out your phone and snapping a picture of Chifuyu with one cat in his lap and the other vying for his attention. He scrunches his nose in annoyance as you take the photo, making it quite the entertaining scene. You set it as your background nonetheless, turning the screen towards Chifuyu so he can see it.

"You're an amazing cat dad." You muse, earning a scoff from the first division's vice-captain.

You'd learned recently that the boy who had taken over Kei's division was named Hanagaki. You'd had yet to meet him, but were curious. You wanted to meet the boy that Chifuyu wanted to entrust Toman's first division to.

"You promised to take care of them with me."

You blinked, turning your attention towards Chifuyu, surprised to see the color in his cheeks. You lean over, brushing your fingers behind Pey's ears, humming gently as she purrs.

"I don't break my promises Chifuyu, so don't worry." You reply, smiling gently as he leans a little closer to you.

"What the fuck do you mean Baji isn't dead? I watched it happen."

The room is cold as the group of boys, because really, that's what they are, sit around the garbage barrel being used as a heater. The flames dance in the lenses of his glasses, hiding his eyes from the rest of the boys acting as his informants. He'd already ridden the obstacle known as Baji Keisuke, so what could these idiots be talking about?

"B-but sir... There are witness reports of both Mikey and Chifuyu being accompanied by a girl who seems to share blood ties to Baji himself..."

Clicking his tongue, the leader of this congregation turns away, trying to figure out just who this woman could be. Baji was—had been a monster. If this girl was anything like that... well...

"I want more information." He states, threading his fingers before his face, pinning the boys before him. "I want to know everything there is to know about this girl by the end of the week. If she's close to Toman, maybe she's a weakness I haven't yet had the ability to exploit."
