Chapter 14:

It takes three weeks for Chifuyu to be discharged from the hospital. You spend nearly every day there with him. Your mother is worried about your absence, but you placate it by letting her know that you made a friend in the hospital. She lets you know that she'd love to meet them. You're little game of white lies is getting harder to play. Your guilt is growing heavier and heavier every time the easy lie leaves your lips. You wonder if you were born a boy, would you have been struggling this much to just keep seeing Chifuyu? Why was it ok for Kei to be a delinquent, but the thought of you spending time with them was so damn taboo? 'Because it wasn't taboo for you to hang out with them, but rather, a dangerous endeavor' the treacherous voice in the back of your mind reminds you. You shake your head, trying to dispel the thoughts.

"You ok?"

You focus back on the blond boy before you. Chifuyu is balanced on the swing while you sit cross-legged in the sand. Takemichi is using the other swing beside Toman's first division captain.

"Ya. Just tired." You offer, earning a bored stare from Chifuyu.

Just when did he become a connoisseur of your white lies? How annoying. You break your gaze away from those bright, turquoise eyes, turning your attention instead, towards Takemichi.

"I'm starting to think that it isn't necessarily Kisaki that's the problem." You state, both boys bulking at your statement.

"He's the one that's constantly setting Toman up. There's got to be a reason for that! He's always one step ahead of us!" Takemichi is quick to say, clenching the chains of his swing.

"Takemitchy's right. There's no way Kisaki could always have a better plan without also—"

"Being a time leaper." The first division's captain states, blue eyes widening.

Chifuyu looks like he got robbed of his moment, and you cover your mouth to keep yourself from laughing out loud.

"I think you're looking at this the wrong way." You supply, turning your attention towards the moon.

Both boys offer you their undivided attention, clearly interested in what you have to say. It's freezing, and snow's around the corner, you can tell. Christmas is hot on its heels.

"Kisaki must have an objective." You start, getting cut off as Takemichi interjects.

"He wants Toman. In the future—"

"But why?" You ask, shutting up the smaller boy. "It just seems a little small for Kisaki to put all this together to just become a small time thug."

"There's nothing small about Toman in the future." Takemichi states, eyes burning.

"I'm just saying. Why go through all this trouble of taking Toman? He could put together his own criminal organization." You stated with a shrug.

"Maybe he likes the game?" Chifuyu offers, earning a long exhale from Takemichi.

There's anger sparking in those blue eyes. You've heard a couple times now that Hina dies in the future. Originally it was both her and her brother, but somehow Takemichi changed that by speaking to the Naoto in your timeline. It was still a hard pill to swallow, time leaping. Chifuyu seemed completely at ease with Takemichi's story, so you had to give the latter a little bit of credit. Not to mention, the emotions that he had showed in your hospital room when he told you that both you and Chifuyu were murdered... Those were not emotions that anyone could fake.
