Chapter 23:

Chifuyu's apartment was rather warm as you set out three mugs of tea. Takemichi thanked you verbally while Chifuyu offered you a soft smile before you took the seat beside his. Takemichi sat across from you guys, staring down at his mug. You knew the boys had something to tell you, given Chifuyu was practically vibrating with excitement. You looked up to see that they both had their eyes locked on each other, silent conversation happening as you took a sip of your tea. Who were you to infringe on their bromance?

"Mikey kicked Kisaki out of Toman."

There was a moment of brief silence as you processed Takemichi's words. When they caught up with you, you slammed your mug on the small, wooden table Chifuyu owned, scaring Yang who had been dozing on the kitchen counter.

"We- you... you did it!" You cheered, throwing your hands up in euphoria.

Chifuyu's turquoise eyes squinted as he smiled at you. You felt tears prick at your eyes, quickly bringing your fingers to your eyes to catch the tears before they could fall.

"We finally did it, Kei..." You murmured, feeling a weight lift off your chest.

You didn't have to open your eyes to know who's hand had sank into the midnight blocks that had been a commonality between you and your brother. Kisaki... the bastard who had plotted to hurt Kei... who had caused so many problems within Toman... he was finally being cut out. With his dying breaths, Kei had warned Toman... Chifuyu had told you about it. The two of you shared many sleepless nights of memories.

"Don't cry." Chifuyu murmured, pulling your hands away from your face.

"I just—Finally... I feel like Kei can finally rest." You murmured, pushing your face into Chifuyu's shoulder now that he'd taken away your hands. "But," You than stated, sitting up and using the cuff of the sweater you were borrowing from Chifuyu to wipe away the tears on your face. "If that's all it took to save Toman, you wouldn't be here."

Both boys stared at you in astonishment before Takemichi deflated somewhat in his chair. You wished that cutting Kisaki out like the cancer that he was would be enough to make Toman a better place. You wish that it was enough to keep Hina safe and Takemichi happy in the future. He deserved it after all the work he had put into keeping everyone safe. He had saved many lives... including both yours and Chifuyu's.

"I—" Takemichi cut himself off, clearing his throat after the word had come out so broken.

You caught Chifuyu shaking his head out of the corner of your eye and raised a brow towards him. Takemichi stared at his vice-captain for a couple of seconds before turning his attention back towards you.

"We're not quite sure what we're up against... the future... is bleak so I need to find out what the problem is." Takemichi states, his gaze flicking away from you.

You glanced back at Chifuyu, annoyed at how he was also avoiding your gaze. They were keeping something from you. You tried to keep the annoyance from rearing its head from within. You would love to have all the pieces to the puzzle, but maybe this wasn't something you were allowed to know. You were reminded all over again that just because you were close to Toman's upper brass, it didn't mean you weren't someone they would keep on a need to know basis.

"Naoto didn't have anything for you?" You asked, trying to probe even though you shouldn't.

"Mikey... goes on a head hunt in the future." Takemichi gets out, looking pained.
