Chapter 26:

Chifuyu hasn't seen Takemichi this shaken since the first time they met. To be fair, back then, he didn't care too much what Takemichi was feeling... far too preoccupied with the barrage of hits coming his way. Still, he remembers the face Takemichi showed him when he'd proclaimed that Baji was the coolest. That moment feels like it's centuries in the past.

"You're saying that this Izana guy built Tenjiku because of a grudge he has against Mikey?" The first division's vice-captain asks, feeling tired as he tries to connect things in his head.

Takemichi is trying to bring him up to speed, but it's a lot to take in. A secret stepbrother that Mikey had no idea about? One that had apparently been close to Shinichirou, who also happens to be the founder of the Black Dragons. Chifuyu was getting whiplash from all the different angles that were trying to coincide into one solution for this problem.

"Yup..." Takemichi mumbles.

Chifuyu clicks his tongue, irritation building up as his brain fails at providing any straight forward plan that can help them avoid the future they seemed to be steam rolling towards. He wants to be able to guarantee that she'll be there in the future. Hell, he wants to guarantee that they'll all be smiling together in the future. Was that selfish of him? Did that make him an awful person? Was he willing to trade Kisaki's happiness for his own? That thought was laughable; the answer would always be yes. That bastard had killed his best friend and was working towards taking away the girl that held his heart in the palms of her hands.

"Chifuyu."

The first division vice-captain is startled out of his reverie by Takemichi's somber tone. He's used to the Cry Baby Hero, but he's not used to seeing him so serious. Snot and tears aren't inherently demanding of respect.

"I want you to back out. Don't get involved anymore."

Chifuyu blinks at his captain, turquoise eyes widening as the information process in his already overstimulated brain.

"What the fuck?" He snaps, gaze narrowing on Takemichi. "What the fuck are you talking about!?" He repeats his irritation spiking.

"I watched Naoto die..."

That information has Chifuyu's stomach plummeting. Naoto was Takemichi's link to the future. Without the link to the future... they were just fifteen year old kids. There was nothing special about their meddling in time if they couldn't make sure their meddling didn't just make it worse.

"I can't go back to the future anymore." Takemichi states, confirming Chifuyu's fears. "So... I'm going to take care of this issue and solve this sibling's feud, on my own."

Chifuyu's brain must be smoking as he tries and fails to come up with a reply to Takemichi's words.

"I will kill Kisaki and Izana."

Those words send a chill down Chifuyu's spine. He watches as Takemichi's blue eyes that are usually bright and innocent harden into something he doesn't understand. This isn't a fifteen year old boy... He has to remind himself that this Takemichi is from the future... this boy who stands before him and proclaims murder as if it isn't something that's already tainted the future and past alike. He refuses to let Takemichi take on this heavy burden alone; adult or not.
