Chapter 27:

"Aw, visiting your brother's grave with your beloved sister?" The tanned boy before you asked, though the sinister air to his voice didn't go unnoticed by anyone.

"Takemichi." Mikey's voice was cold as he pinned the first division captain with his gaze. "Take the girls away."

You rose a brow at Mikey as Emma slipped her hand in yours. If you focused enough, you could feel the slightest of trembles as she stared at the scene before her. You had been so ready to step up next to Mikey... but not only was it not your place... Emma needed you more than he did. Leaving her with Takemichi was probably not the safest option anyways...

It's funny, because Takemichi doesn't take you far. Just outside of the graveyard, you can still see the boys talking from where you stand. They're far enough that understanding the words that leaves their lips is pretty much impossible, but you can still witness if things get out of hand. Emma's grip on your hand tightens as you stare out at them.

"That's my third brother, isn't it?"

The words shock you, blowing your bronzes eyes wide. What the hell was she talking about? Brother? Other than Mikey and Shinichirou? Since when?

"So... there's going to be a fight, isn't there?" Emma prods again, grip still tight.

"Maybe." Takemichi mumbles.

"All boys ever do is fight." Emma sighs. "The Invincible Mikey... but you know... Mikey still sleeps with that dirty, old towel..."

There's a gentle smile on Emma's lips as she talks about her brother. There's a pang of longing that's attempting to rip your chest in two, but you're trying to ignore it.

"Mikey's always strong for everyone... so me... I'm gonna be strong for Mikey!" Emma smiles, earning a grin from Takemichi.

You let out a gentle chuckle at her optimism. Emma is a ray of sunshine. As she continues to joke around, you find your attention sliding towards Takemichi. His grin's vanished, and in it's stead, horror starts to mar his features. You cock your head before turning towards Emma. The color drains out of your face as the sound of a bike engine meets your ears. Why didn't you hear it until now? You take off towards Emma, hand outreached towards her. She turns towards you, head cocking slightly in questioning.

"Emma!" You scream, your voice shadowed by Takemichi's desperate plea.

Maybe it's because you react faster than Takemichi. Maybe it's because you've finally connected all the dots. Kisaki wants to break Mikey. He's failed in his conventional ways... he's attacked the one constant that Mikey has in his life since the beginning. The wind is knocked out of you as an unimaginable pain explodes from your shoulder. Your vision wavers, your fingers twitching before wrapping themselves in Emma's hair and cushioning her fall. Your bronze eyes widen, tears breaking the dam as you land on that same shoulder. You roll for a bit, nauseous with a hazy vision. You're hyperventilating.

"Damn bitch! You're always in the fucking way!"

You recognize the voice, but can't place it's owner. You twist to the side, retching.

"Baji!"

That's Emma's voice. Oh thank god...

"Kisaki!"

"Get the fuck out of my way, Hanagaki." He growls.

The voices jumble after that. There's more screaming but your head isn't working with you. You retch again, but this time your breakfast is regurgitated before you. You hear your name a few times and the rev of an engine getting further and further away. Someone fills your vision, though it's blurry.
