Chapter 19:

Chifuyu fucked up. He's not really sure what he did this time, but it's all too clear to him that he fucked up. Where the fuck did he think... who was he to complain to her about her own brother's death?! Was he an absolute asshole? As if she didn't feel the pain he felt, multiplied by a million. What kind of heartless, shit bag ripped his best friend's little sister because he wasn't in a good head space? So what if she wanted to send Kazutora letters?! So what if she was trying to move on when he wasn't ready?! What fucking right did he have to take it out on her? What right did he even have to keep her by his side? If he kept this up... she was going to break... and he'd lose yet another person he loved.

He's not sure how long he had been sitting in the foyer, forehead pressed against the cool metal of his front door, but a harsh banging nearly gives him a heart attack. He blinks at the door, not aware of the hour, but knowing full well that it isn't one that any normal person would be awake during. He should be sleeping too. Instead, he peaks through the peephole and is startled to find a bundled up Draken waiting impatiently for him.

"Chifuyu, don't make me break down this goddamn door!" He snaps, bringing the boy in question out of his daze.

Blinking himself out of his reverie, Chifuyu pulls the door open. He shivers as ice bites at his skin. It's an unnaturally cold night. His fingers curl in on themselves without his consent. He brings his arms up, hiding his fingers in his armpits to try and keep them warm. Draken looks annoyed, but his gaze seems to soften the longer he takes in Chifuyu's appearance.

"C'mon. We need your help with something." He states, voice a lot more gentle than when he had been threatening Chifuyu mere seconds ago.

He glances beside Chifuyu before reaching in. Turquoise eyes follow his vice-commander's hand as it grabs her coat and tosses it over his shoulder. Chifuyu doesn't quite get it, but he doesn't argue when Draken bends down and grabs her boots as well. When she ran out, she must have forgotten them. At least her place was only a couple floors up. If she wasn't careful, she was going to make herself sick. It was nice of Draken to want to drop it off before they headed out, but it was rather late, so he should probably leave it to another day.

A few minutes later, Chifuyu finds himself seated on the back of Draken's bike, her clothing stored within the bike's storage. He's confused, but not really worried about it. It's not like Draken to steal woman's clothing anyways. Maybe he's also aware of the late hour. Maybe he's also aware that Chifuyu's an absolute piece of garbage and that she probably never wants to talk to him again, so he's doing him a favor by taking the stuff off his hands. Before he knows it, they're pulling up to the cemetery, causing an uneasy feeling to start within Chifuyu's gut. He climbs off the back of Draken's bike, a little nervous to see Mikey's unoccupied Babu right beside them. There are no other bikes, which means that they're on their own. This isn't a Toman meeting... this is a private affair. The first division vice-captain tries to ascertain whether he's done anything recently to insult Mikey. He comes up blank, which has him feeling a little more than a little nervous.

"C'mon. they're up ahead." Draken states as he sticks his fingers into his coat.

Chifuyu can feel the bite of the wind, especially since the scarf he usually wore got shredded by Pey in an unfortunate afternoon massacre. No matter how he tries to hide behind the collar of Toman's uniform to keep warm, it does little to fight the ice in the air. He recognizes this route, he's done it a million times both on his own and with her. He continues to follow Draken nonetheless, nerves bubbling until the taller boy comes to a stop. Chifuyu raises a brow at him before peering over his shoulder to see what's stopped him. The sight has his eyes widening. Before him... there's a lump sitting in front of Baji's grave. Maybe it was better to say that she collapsed there. Her legs are flopped to the sides, looking quite painful if Chifuyu's being honest. She's got a Toman jacket on her shoulders. It takes Chifuyu a second to realize that Mikey's actually crouched in front of her. He's talking to her in a hushed toned, but Chifuyu can't hear her voice. Either she isn't answering, or Mikey's reading her mind. He's worried about both possibilities. He leaves Draken behind, making his way around her back to take in her appearance. He stops cold in his tracks. The best way he can describe how she looks... he had never wanted to see that look on anyone's face again. He nearly vomits at the mere sight. Mikey peaks up at him, but turns back to her, continuing to talk to her. Chifuyu had been right. She wasn't answering Mikey. She didn't even know that he was there.
