I took a deep breath while I entered the hotel. Today was the day. Today was the day I see my father for the first time since I was younger. I had made it my mission for the last few years to completely avoid my father. He had made our relationship estranged. He had made himself a stranger in my life. I was not ready for today. I was not ready for this conversation. I was not ready to see my father. I was excited to see my mother. I had always loved my mother. She had done nothing wrong. I decided it was time to face the music. I had been standing outside the hotel for a few moments before deciding to finally enter. I needed to do this for Eli. It was not fair what my father was doing to him and someone needed to get to the bottom of this. I could not understand many of my father's motives but this one made no sense. Why decided to put my sister in charge? Why decided to tell Eli right before his wedding? Why would he try to completely destroy his relationship with his nephew? I wonder if my aunt knows. I could only believe that she did not. How could my father explain to his sister why her only child was getting fired? Something was going on here. I quickly left the lobby after asking them which room my parents were in and made my way to the elevator. My parents were staying in the penthouse. I should have guessed that from the beginning. My father really did only travel in style. I arrived at the correct floor before taking another breath. Time to face the music. I knocked on the door and waited. My mother opened the door. Her eyes widened and lit up when she saw me. I was happy to see her.

"Oh my goodness, my sweet baby. I can't believe you're here" She exclaimed while pulling me into a hug and I hugged her tightly. I missed my mother. It had been a while since I last saw her. I decided to go see her back when Michael was getting married since I was back in Maine at the time. We had a lovely chat and I told her all about Nathan. That was the last time I saw her, that was a year and seven months ago. I hugged my mother for a few more moments before I guess my father was wondering what was taking so long and decided to check for himself. My mother pulled away from me and I was left staring at my father.

"What are you doing here Owen?" My father asked while wearing his famous glare. My father isn't the most expressionist but this was one of the faces he was recognized for. My father was always this strict looking. I stared at my father before my mother let me into the penthouse room. I walked into the nicely decorated room. The penthouse really was a beautiful hotel suite. It was a little extravagant but it sure was nice.

"I came to see you father. We need to talk. Why would you come to town a few days before Eli's happiest day ever and tell him that he is now fired?" I asked him while crossing my arms over my chest and glaring at him. I noticed my mother's eyes widen. Did she not know?

"Donald, is this true? Did you really tell Elijah that he was fired? Why would you do that?" My mother asked him and my father sighed.

"Audrey I had to, trust me this was better for everyone" My father explained while looking at my mother who seemed to understand his reasonings. I wish I knew his reasoning. How was this better for everyone? Eli will be without a job, without a career and my sister will be working her ass off. Is this what she wanted?

"How is this better for everyone?! Eli will be without a job. How could you do this father?" I asked him with all my anger. How was this fair for Eli? How was this fair for anyone? How could this be better for everyone? I just didn't understand. My mother looked at me than my father and then continued this for a few more minutes. My father would glance at my mother and then shake his head at whatever they were communicating silently. I just stood there completely lost. What was happening?

"Donald, if she knows then I think it's time we tell Owen. This will come out one way or another, shouldn't we tell him before someone else does?" My mother asked my father who was completely disagreeing. I didn't understand what was happening but from context, I could only assume my parents were sharing a secret. They were sharing an important secret I guess. A secret that my sister somehow figured out. Was the secret the reason behind Eli losing his job? Was the company going under? Was it something about my sister? I just wanted to know what was happening. My father sighed before making his way to the couch with my mother joining him. I guess we are having this conversation in the living room.
