I stared at the familiar face of the boy I had given the title of my first crush to. I could not believe my eyes. Oliver was standing right in front of me. I had always thought that I would never see him again after he moved away from Maine. I wonder why he decided to come back. I could not believe he was a realtor let alone my realtor. This must have been some weird joke from the universe."Owen Baker, wow it's been a long time" He greeted me with a smile once he stopped staring at me. I smiled politely at him before looking at my sister from the corner of my eye. She was giving me this face I could only recognize from when she used to get me in trouble. I could only agree with her on this.
"It has really been a long time Oliver. I didn't know you were a realtor let alone back in Maine" I told him while we shook hands. I noticed that Oliver's hand seemed to linger longer than it needed to and I started to feel awkward. The man smiled next to me before nodding.
"Yeah, I moved back a couple of years ago and started at this firm. I always missed Maine while growing up. What have you been up to?" He asked me and I just smiled while my sister shook her head and went to look around the house. I cursed her out in my head for leaving me with Oliver.
"I started my own business. You may have heard of it. Formally known as Baker's restaurants? There a few all over the place" I explained to him and his eyes seemed to light up with recognition.
"Oh my goodness yes! I actually ate at your Vermont location last week. The food was amazing. That's cool that you are finally doing what you always wanted to do and now your even moving back to Maine huh" He exclaimed with this look in his eyes and I knew it was time to shut down whatever was going through his mind. I could not understand this interaction with Oliver. He seemed to be very interested in what I had to say. He seemed to be almost flirting or at least hinting at something. I didn't understand since he was the one to reject me back in the day.
"Yeah I'm looking for a house for me and my fiance" I explained to him and his face seem to fall. So he really was trying to hint at something.
"Oh, you're engaged?" He asked and I nodded. I just came here to see a house and now this is my morning isn't it?
"Yep! My wedding is today" I explained to him with an awkward expression and his eyes widened.
"Oh well, congratulations then. I hope it's a lovely ceremony" He said before clearing his throat and looking down at his papers. I saw my sister making her way back over and I thanked whatever deity is up there for her return. I could not believe she left me alone with Oliver in the first place but I was so glad she was back. Celia looked at me with a raised eyebrow and I sighed.
"So Oliver, I'm glad you caught up with my brother but we came here to see a house," She told the man next to us who jumped at my sister's voice before smiling politely.
"Right the house. Follow me" He said before walking toward the house. I really want to buy a house for Nathan and I but I don't think it's worth this. Goodness. This is not how I saw my day going.

I ended up spending my entire morning house-hunting with my sister and my middle school crush. To say it was awkward was an understatement. I came to realize that telling him about my wedding to Nathan was a terrible idea. I knew that it needed to be said to cancel any thoughts he may have had in his head but it simply made everything awkward. I was glad Celia decided to come with me. I could not imagine how things would have gone if I was alone with this man. We ended up looking at a bunch of houses. We went from the blue one in the middle of the town to some of the best I've seen on the outskirts of the town. Every house we would see was perfect in its own way. The only problem is that they weren't Nathan and my home together. I was growing disappointed. I wanted to surprise him with a house and so far none of them was the house. I was waiting for one of them to really be the house of our dreams. I knew that Nathan would be happy with whatever house I got. He didn't even know anything about this but I knew he would be happy with any one of these houses. Nathan didn't need much to be happy. We continued looking at houses for the rest of the morning until I eventually got a call. I grabbed my phone out of my pocket and my eyes widened once I noticed the time. I quickly picked up the call that I knew would be an unpleasant one.
"Owen where are you?! Your wedding starts in twenty minutes. I swear if you decided to break Nathan's heart I will hunt you down and kill you myself" I heard the voice of my cousin yell into the phone and I flinched. Fuck I hadn't realized it had gotten this late into the day.
"Eli please calm down. I would never break Nathan's heart, I'm just running a little late is all. I didn't realize what time it was" I explained to the boy while trying to calm him down.
"Where even are you? We came by your house and you weren't home. I swear if I need to start tracking your phone" He grumbled and I rolled my eyes. My cousin has always been something else.
"I'm with Celia. We will be there soon" I reassured him and he asked me to put my sister on the phone. I sighed before passing the phone to Celia and they started chatting. I can't believe he doesn't even believe me. I also could not believe how late it had gotten. I had spent my entire morning looking for a house that I guess didn't exist. I guess I won't be buying a house for Nathan and me. Celia eventually finished her conversation with Eli before passing the phone back to me.
"Eli says we better hurry and that he's really excited about you buying a house. He also sent that" She said before pointing at my phone and I looked down at the picture that Eli had sent me. My eyes widened upon seeing it. I had seen this house before. I had walked past this house countless times on my way to school when I was younger, I had seen it again when I was going to Michael's wedding party breakfast. It was the house about ten minutes from where Nathan and I are getting married. Why would Eli be sending me this house, this house has always had people living in it.
"Why did he send the old Smith's house?" Celia asked me and I looked at her with wide eyes. Did she just say the old Smith's house? Does this mean they don't live there anymore? I looked at the man who had been the worst realtor ever before walking over to him.
"Oliver, is this house available?" I asked him while showing him the photo on my phone and his eyes widened as he had just been caught doing something terrible. Did he know this house was available this entire time?
"Now that I think about it, yes it just got on the market" He explained and my eyes lit up in delight. This was my dream house. This was Nathan and my home. Celia walked over and crossed her arms.
"Oliver that house has been on the market for the last two years" She stated to the man while glaring at him. My eyes widened. This house has been available this entire time and he didn't even show it today.
"Right...We should go see it then" He said before picking up his things and I simply looked at him.
"No need, that's the house I will be buying. Now I have a wedding to get to, bye Oliver" I told him before Celia and I walked away from him. I can not explain what was wrong with Oliver but it was not my problem. I had found my dream home and now I could go get married to my dream man. I was excited. I was finally going to get married to Nathan. I could not wait.
When I said Oliver is nothing more than a really annoying man, this is what I meant. Clearly, Oliver likes Owen, even though he was the one who rejected Owen all those years back. Oliver is also a terrible realtor. The man was so jealous that he completely neglected to show Owen a house that everyone knew he would want. I am so glad this is the last time I need to talk about Oliver. Owen has found the perfect house and now it's wedding time! Two more chapters to go and sadly this book is over. The next chapter is about the wedding and the chapter after that is the finale. I hope you all enjoyed this house-shopping chapter. See you all at the wedding.
