"Owen this menu choice is really impressive. What made you make such a selection?" Beau asked me once he read over the menu and I smiled. I decided to create the menu based on my feelings for Nathan and the theme of love that is my restaurant. The menu had some intricate things on it. My menu ranged from Nathan and my favorite breakfast meals, pancakes, and waffles with extra syrup to Nathan's favorite mac and cheese, Mushroom stroganoff mac and cheese to finally some of the best desserts I have ever chosen. The desserts were a mix of our favorite choices, the best love-themed ones, and wedding cake samples. My choices were strange and complex and not typical for restaurants but that is what made it unique. I was hoping it would also make it famous."The menu was my favorite part. The choices were easy. The breakfast selection is based on Nathan's and my favorite breakfast foods. Ranging from my delicious waffles with syrup to Nathan's favorite mochi waffles with fresh fruit and granola to the best main courses. The mac and cheese are really my favorites. The dessert selection was really the best part, especially the samples. Nathan kept telling me about how amazing the samples were for the wedding he just photographed" I explained to the couple before looking at my adorable boyfriend whose cheeks started to tint red at the attention.
"You're a photographer Nathan?" Beau asked him and I smiled widely. Nathan looked toward him before smiling.
"Yeah! I had always had a passion for taking photos and I finally just went for it you know. It's been pretty cool but nothing has been more fun and difficult and just amazing than the wedding I just finished photographing this month. I'll send you their website if you would like to see some of the pictures" He started explaining with this wide childlike grin and I could not help but feel immense pride boil in my stomach and heart. Seeing Nathan talk about something he was so passionate about was amazing. Beau nodded before quickly getting the website information from Nathan. I decided to look back at the menu before deciding what I should get. I figured I should at least try something from every category since I wanted to make sure everything was good to go. I decided to go with Mac and cheese as the main course, waffles for dessert, and I decided to go with a simple caramel macchiato for a drink. The waiter came over and we gave him our order. Everyone had made a fine choice.
"So Owen, Nathan, how did you two meet?" Beau asked us suddenly and I smiled. I am so glad he asked. This had always been my favorite topic of conversation. This was our story. I looked at Nathan and he smiled.
"Our story is really interesting. We met at an airport bar. I was drinking because I was sad that I did not have a date for my sister's wedding. Owen showed up and we started talking, turns out he was also going to the same place I was. We chatted until the plane was ready to board and then we separated. I never thought we would see each other again" Nathan started before looking into my eyes and I smiled.
"I was going to Maine for my best friend's wedding. I had just traveled from Oregon and had a connected flight from New York. I was sad when Nathan rejected me but then I saw him again. My best friend was marrying his sister. We were both the best men. It took a while before convincing Nathan that he liked me. He actually went on a date with Eli here but they decided to stay friends. Now we are together and happier than ever" I finished telling the story while Nathan grabbed my hand under the table. I have told our story many times before but every time I need to mention that he almost ended up with my cousin, it gives me a bad feeling. I'm glad they decided to simply be friends.
"Wait you two dated?" Beau suddenly asked and I regretted all my life choices. I shouldn't have added that part. Fuck. I looked at the boys beside me and they both glared at me. I fucked up.
"Babe please don't get upset about this. It was a blind date. It was coffee once because our mothers set us up. It ended the exact same day as it started. I'm not into Nathan like that I promise" Eli explained while grabbing his boyfriend's hands and we all seemed to wait. We sat in silence until Beau decided to say something. The silence seemed to last hours. It was both painful and long. I really hope I didn't mess this up.
"So you two dated got coffee and now you are friends. I can't decide if I should be proud of how progressive you are or be really jealous that you guys had coffee together. I'm literally known for being the coffee guy" Beau said and I really wanted to laugh at the way he said it but under the circumstances, laughing would be inappropriate. Beau seemed to be processing everything before smiling. Smiling is good.
"As long as there's nothing between you two then I'm fine with it. I was friends with my ex for the last few years so it's not weird" He stated while smiling reassuringly at Eli.
"You were friends with your ex? Why haven't you ever told me?!" Eli exclaimed and now we all laughed. They really have to have a conversation.

It was now a bit later into our double date and we were finished with our main meals. It was approaching the time I had planned for my engagement with Nathan. I was getting both excited and slightly nervous. I was confident to know that Nathan wouldn't reject me but the probability of things going wrong was strong. I could potentially mess up or the chef could mess up on his task. I could do so many things wrong that the slightly anxious feeling started to grow. I decided to excuse myself to the restroom before dessert would show up at the table. I needed a moment to recollect myself from all the energy that was radiating from me. I left for the bathroom and quickly went to wash my face when suddenly Beau walked in. He smiled once he saw me and made his way over to me.
"Oh hey, Beau" I greeted the male who waved even though we had been eating at the same table for the last hour.
"I wanted to ask you something, Owen. After dinner tonight, I have decided that Eli is the best person I have ever met. I know it's early but I also know that I want to spend my life with him. So I was wondering if you wouldn't mind if I ask him to marry me tonight. It won't be weird right?" He asked me and I kept a smile on my face despite the emotions going on in my head. I was perfectly fine with Beau wanting to marry my cousin, they were a cute couple. I can admit that this was fast since they had only begun their relationship but there was nothing wrong with it. My hesitance at it was from my own wish to ask Nathan to marry me. I guess there is no rush for it. I could always let Beau take over my moment. There will be another time for Nathan and me.
"You know what Beau, that's an excellent idea. I can even help you with this. It will happen at dessert okay? Do you have a ring picked out?" I decided to jump on board with the changes in the plan and Beau grinned at me. Something was endearing about making someone else happy. I knew this was the right choice.
"I didn't expect to do this tonight so I have nothing prepared" He explained with a worried expression and I simply smiled reassuringly at him.
"It's all good Beau, I have the ring all prepared for you. Just wait for dessert and then speak from the heart" I told him before patting his shoulder and Beau's smile widened. He quickly thanked me before making his way out of the bathroom. I looked at my reflection in the mirror before noticing the slight disappointment and the smile that stayed on my lips. I hope Eli will be excited. At least someone gets to benefit from this night. I'll just have to find another time to propose to Nathan. I guess it wasn't meant to be today. I quickly finished my thoughts before leaving the bathroom and making my way back to the table right when dessert was being served. I simply smiled when the surprise I had for Nathan showed up and I let Beau take the lead from there. It may not have been what I planned but it was a beautiful engagement. Eli told him yes.
Sooo I knew this was going to happen since I wrote it but that did not stop me from giving you all false hope in the last chapter. Owen will propose to Nathan eventually, plus if you read Christmas Wedding you already know when it takes place. Beau and Eli are really cute together and even though it was more sooner than ordinary couples, they are now engaged and Owen is the nicest guy ever because he was happy to let Beau take away his moment. His moment will come but it was not today. I hope you all enjoyed this chapter. It was a fun one.
