"Nathan! Have you seen Mr. Jasper? I've been looking everywhere and Jay won't go down for a nap without it" I asked my husband while walking into the kitchen with the little four-year-old in my arms. Nathan smiled at us once he saw us enter the room and baby Jay made grabby hands for her father. My adorable husband of eight years quickly grabbed the little girl before telling me to flip whatever he was cooking for this lunch."Did you lose Mr. Jasper Lani? Don't you remember you had a tea party with Frey earlier?" Nathan reminded the little girl while tickling her stomach which caused her to giggle.
"Damn I didn't check there. Jay, why didn't you tell me?" I asked the little girl while I started adding the spice to the lunch that Nathan was previously making.
"I'm sorry daddy, I forgot" She explained and I kissed her cheek before Nathan took the little girl to our little six-year-old room to find Mr. Jasper. I chuckled softly before turning off the food and quickly platting it in the containers Nathan had laid out for me. We were having guests today which was why Nathan was cooking a lot for lunch. My sister was coming over with her little girl since tomorrow Ridley and Freyja are starting first grade. I could not believe it was happening. My little girl was starting the first grade. Time moves way too fast. I finished platting the food with that thought in mind when Nathan walked back into the kitchen with Frey following him this time. I smiled at my little big girl.
"What are you cooking daddy?" She asked while propping herself on the counter. I smiled down at her before picking her up.
"I was helping daddy with lunch since auntie Celia and Ridley are coming remember?" I explained to the little six-year-old while bringing her over to the table. Nathan quickly took over in the kitchen and I smiled at him. Freyja nodded her head while her eyes lit up.
"Can Ember come too?" She asked me and I continued to smile at my little girl. I have always found it cute how she looks up to her older cousin. We were lucky that Everly and Michael decided to move to Maine after their many relocations. It was really good for Freyja to have her cousins around her while she is growing up and it's been good for both Nathan and me to have our siblings close.
"I'll ask Eve but knowing her, she's probably already on her way here. She has been so excited ever since she remembered you were starting school this year Frey" Nathan explained and the little girl smiled widely. We heard the knock at the door as if on queue. I smiled before going over to answer it and almost had the door smash into my face. I noticed the excited scream coming from the woman before I even saw her face, Everly was indeed here. I chuckled while I quickly let Michael into the house with their nine-year-old daughter Emberlynn.
"Did she hit you, Owen? I'm so sorry about her. She has been excited all morning" Micheal asked me while I was making sure his wife did not leave a bump on my head.
"It's all good. It was my fault for standing right next to the door. How are you, Michael?" I asked him with a bright smile and he matched my expression.
"I'm doing really good. Things have been good in the food critique business and it's been a lot easier with Ember going to the fourth grade. Did you know that they have so many different clubs and my baby girl wants to join all of them?" He explained and I chuckled. I will not be ready when Freyja wishes to start joining clubs. I'm not even ready for when Jay starts preschool. It already hurts my heart when my baby girl goes to daycare every day.
"Uncle they have a photography club, baking club, arts and crafts, and the sports center and I'm going to join them all!" Ember exclaimed excitingly and I smiled at her.
"That's so cool Ember but don't let them distract you from your schoolwork okay? Now let's go to the kitchen, your cousin has been waiting for you" I told the little nine-year-old who nodded before running off to the kitchen to go catch up with Frey. I chuckled softly before Michael and I made our way to the kitchen where I knew Everly was talking my husband's ear off. I walked over to Nathan before wrapping him in my arms while we listened to his sister rant about how the kids were growing up too fast. I could not help but agree with her. Soon they will all be teenagers and I am not ready. We continued to stand in the kitchen talking about our kids until I heard the doorbell and my smile widened. My sister was here!
***
We were now all sitting in the living room while Freyja, Emberlynn and Ridley were all watching a princess movie on the tv in front of us. I enjoyed this moment. I enjoyed catching up with my sister and I knew Nathan enjoyed it too. With everything that had been going on with the preparation for the new school year and most of us going back to work, it has been nice to spend the last day together. We had obviously spent most of the summer together since both Everly and Celia now live in Maine near us, but we hadn't seen each other as recently. Michael and Everly decided to spend the last part of summer back in New York visiting Nathan's mother while my sister had just recently come back to town after visiting Travis and Tate. She wanted to see her goddaughter before she started fifth grade this year. I could not believe that the same baby that once came to Nathan's and my wedding was now ten years old. Time sure flew by. I looked away from the kids and their movie and looked toward my adorable husband next to me. Nathan's eyes caught mine before he grabbed my hand and squeezed it a little. I grinned at him. I brought his hand up to my lips and kissed it gently before looking back at our siblings.
"I forgot to ask earlier. How are Eli and Travis?" I asked the two women sitting on opposite sides of the sofa area. Everly lit up while my sister smiled.
"Eli and Beau are doing amazing! Their move should be complete soon. Can you believe it took them this long to actually show up in Maine? Eli is literally from here. Nova is also doing amazing. Can you believe she's already starting third grade? She's such a big girl" Everly explained and now it was my eyes that lit up. I knew that Eli and Beau had decided to move to Maine eventually but they had decided to wait until Beau's coffee shop in Washington was finished. I had no idea it would be in time for this new school year. Eli had always talked about being back home and having Nova join Emberlynn, Ridley, and Frey's school but I didn't know it would be this year. I was happy that they would be here and I knew that the girls were just as happy. They had always been close with their cousin despite her living in a different state. It would be good for all of them to take on this year together. It would be really good for both Frey and Ridley since they are going to be brand new in this big school.
"I am so glad they are moving here now. It was always the plan but I'm just glad it's before the school year starts. Now all the girls can be there for each other" I stated which caused everyone to completely agree.
"Travis and Tate are also good. They wanted to wish the girls a piece of good luck at their new big-girl school. Dixie is also doing amazing. She's starting fifth grade with Lily and she said that she wishes to call her cousins before school starts so you should be expecting a call tonight" My sister explained and I smiled. I am so glad everyone is doing okay and that everyone is ready for this new school year. I'm also just so glad that all the cousins are close. I'm glad they could be as close as I was with Eli when growing up. Thankfully for them, they won't have the same drama my family went through and they can all just grow up together. Nathan looked at me with those beautiful eyes of his before pulling me into a sweet kiss. I smiled into the kiss before we pulled away and relaxed in the chatter around the house. My life may have started with a lot of issues but I am so glad I got to live it. I am so glad I was able to meet this amazing man and create this beautiful family with him. I am so glad to be me.
And that is the end of the story folks. I hope you all enjoyed this story as much as I did. Now I will recap all the kids and their ages. So firstborn in this family: Dixie (Travis and Tates little girl) She is now Ten years old. The second couple to have a kid is Everly and Micheal, they were trying the last time we talked. Their little girl Emberlynn is nine years old. The next couple after that was Eli and Beau with little Navy, eight years old. Then Owen and Nathan started having kids and Freyja was born, she's now six with her cousin, Celia's child, Ridley. Owen's sister is still single but she has her little girl and that's all she needs. Finally, Owen and Nathan had one more baby girl, Jaylani and she is now four years old. I hope that cleared everything up for everyone who was confused. I hope you all enjoyed this chapter and this book because it is probably gonna forever be one of my favorites. Oh also I mentioned Dixie is at school with Lily. Lily is Peyton and Austins little girl. Again I mention 'In love with my best friend' because the universes are tied together.
