My father had crossed a line this time. He had messed up. He had done something so unforgivable. This was messed up. This was unfair. It was a week before Eli and Beau's wedding. It had been a year since the day Beau decided to ask my cousin to marry him and they had finally gotten everything ready for the wedding. It took months of planning. Months of asking Nathan and me for our advice. Months of constantly looking at different magazines and changing their choices. Honestly, I never thought it was this much work to get married. When Nathan came home talking about the wedding he was photographing last year, it surely didn't feel like this much work. It had also been a year since I had decided to take a break from my company. It had been a good year. I got to spend time with my wonderful boyfriend and I got time to plan for the future. I had decided the next phase of my company was going to be huge. Baker's restaurants will go international. This year also had its obstacles. Nathan and I were still not engaged but it was not without a lack of trying. I did try. I tried often but after being interrupted many times for many different reasons and all the work we were doing to help the almost-married couple, I decided that I would try again after my cousin was married. I didn't want to overstep this close to the wedding. I didn't want to ruin his big day. My father had other plans. I did not believe that my father set out to completely destroy this wedding, I wasn't really sure about that belief but it was the one that made the most sense. My father adored being Eli's uncle. He had done anything in his power to spend time with him so none of this made any sense. My father came to town with the news of ending Eli's career. My father would be replacing Eli with my sister. I could not understand my father's motives for this move. Eli had been doing amazing at the company. He had been running it perfectly for the last two years. He had been doing an amazing job. I understood that my sister was my fathers, sole heir, after I backed out of the company but this didn't make any sense. It was not a move that my father would have made. It did not make the most sense for the company and it was not the smartest power move. My sister had only recently turned twenty. She had only ever co-run one company before. None of this made sense."Can you believe this! How can he just decide that I no longer run the New York branch? I've been doing it for years and I've been doing it well" Eli ranted while pacing around the room and fuming with anger. His anger was justifiable. How could my father just do this? I know that he cares about his company more than his own family members but this is insane.
"He can't just do this, especially replacing you with my sister. She might be his child but you have been running this company longer. She only now turned twenty" I ranted to the angered boy. This is so unfair. My sister just became of age but that doesn't mean she is ready to run more than one branch. She had been co-running the Texan headquarters since she graduated high school but running more than one branch is definitely not something she is ready for. How could my father do this to Eli? I had always expected he would keep Eli considering how much he groomed him when we were growing up. My father had created Eli to be the perfect heir to the company and treated him more as a son than he ever did me. I could not understand these motives.
"Do you think something could have happened for this change?" Eli asked me after sitting on the couch completely defeated. It's safe to say my father completely ruined his happy wedding vibes. I frowned before making my way over to my cousin and hugging him.
"It's going to be okay Eli, no matter what happens, I will fight for you. This is not right. I'll go figure it out, you just stay here and get some rest okay?" I told him and the boy nodded before I released him from the hug. I smiled slightly before standing up and going toward the door. I saw Beau when I left the room and I quickly informed him of what was happening. I left with him rushing inside to his fiance. I could admit they were really cute. I quickly left Eli's apartment building before making my way back to mine and Nathan's. It had been a long day and tomorrow will be an even longer one. Tomorrow I face this issue head-on. I was not ready for tomorrow. I quickly arrived at the apartment before I noticed Nathan in the kitchen. I guess he must have heard me before once I sat on the couch he quickly made his way over to me.
"What happened with Eli?" He asked me with a worried expression and I couldn't help but feel a bit better with Nathan by my side. I knew that life still had some beauty to it when I would stare into his eyes. I quickly pulled Nathan into my arms which caused him to gasp in surprise before smiling and cuddling closer.
"It was bad. My father told him that my sister will be taking over the New York branch. I just don't understand. Eli has been doing an amazing job for the last two years but now he just decided to fire him for my sister. Celia just now turned twenty, she shouldn't even be taking on this much work yet" I explained to my boyfriend who seemed to listen to every word. I just wish I knew where this was coming from. My father had never mentioned placing my sister as the head of the company. Granted she was only eight when he first started grooming Eli to be his successor but even in high school my father decided Eli should be the next in the company. He was the only boy and child my aunt had conceived and since I no longer wished to be a part of my father's legacy, Elijah was the obvious choice. I just wanted to know whose decision this was and if my sister was even okay with it. Did she really want this?
"That's awful! How could your father just do that to Eli? This is so unfair!" Nathan exclaimed and I smiled down at him.
"I don't know but I will figure it out. Tomorrow is going to be a big day" I stated before sighing and Nathan cupped my cheek.
"We should probably go to bed if that's the case," He said and I nodded before we got off the couch and retreated to our rooms. Tomorrow is going to be a big day. I was not ready.
Drama is about to unfold. I think I mentioned in the second chapter about how Owen's family is going to play a really important role in this story. Drama is about to come and this is probably my favorite plot ever. Tomorrow Owen will go speak with his father and some things are about to unfold. Owen's entire life is about to unfold. I hope you are all ready because I am. Also, I will explain this to make sure it's clear. Eli and Beau got engaged a year ago in this chapter, they do not get married this year so they will be engaged two years before their wedding. For anyone saying 'their relationship was too fast' Well the boys stay engaged for two full years before the wedding so it's not as fast as it would have been. They obviously get to know each other better than anyone else. I hope you all enjoyed this chapter and I hope you are all ready for the drama.
