Chapter Two-

Strange Encounters

“Katie,” I glare at her and inch over toward her. “Please give me back my cell phone I really need to go to work.” I get about a foot near her before she takes off running into the kitchen.

“Katie!” I run into the kitchen and she hides behind the counter. “I'm going to be late, please give me my phone.”

“But I don't want you to leave.” she pouts and looks up at me. I sigh. I hate when she acts like a major pain.

“Katie, you know I have to go.” she looks down and I look around the room for my mom.

“Wait, where’s mom?” she shrugs her shoulders and looks up at me.

“I don't know she was here when I woke up.” I look over to the clock. It was 11 o'clock. I saw a note on the counter and I reached to grab it.

Audrey, I have some business to attend and I need you to watch Katie.

I’m very sorry, I know you have work.

-Mom

“Ugh, come on Katie I have to take you with me to work.” she walks up the stairs to her room, I follow behind her.

I go to her drawer and grab shorts, a pink tank-top and a jacket for her after work.

“Go change, hurry.” I push the clothes toward her and she looks at me like I’m crazy.

“What’s wrong with what I have on?” now its my turn to look at her like she's crazy.

“Really Katie? You are wearing hello kitty pajamas, now please listen to me and go get changed.” I clasp my hands together and pout to her. She nods and walks over to the bathroom.

“Katie, don't forget to brush your teeth too!” I check my watch. 11:15. I hear something drop in the bathroom and I run to the door.

“Are you okay?” I open the door a crack to see Katie by the sink, with tears in her eyes. I open the door all the way and walk in. I knell down to her height.

“What's wrong, why are you crying?” she sniffles and looks down at the sink, I follow her eyes and see my phone, underwater.

I stand up.

“Crap!” I reach in and quickly pull out my phone and Katie clings onto my leg and cries.

I set my phone on the counter and turn off the water and grab Katie and pick her up.

“It's okay; it’s just a cell phone.” I carry her down the stairs and grab her shoes. I walk out the door and carry her down the street toward the studio.

On my way I get looks that say, 'what a shame'. I hate it when people think Katie's my daughter just because we look so much alike. Is it really that hard to believe that she’s my sister?

She’s stopped crying by now, which is good. We reach the studio with minutes to spare.

“Audrey, you're almost late, come on hurry!” Marty stops complaining when he see's Katie follow me into the door.

“I'm so sorry-” he cuts me off by raising his hand in a silence gesture.

“Who's this?” Yeah I know I’ve known Marty for three years and he hasn't meant my sister, come to think of it I don't think she’s ever met him either.

“This isn't your daughter is it?” my eyes grew wide and my mouth hangs open.

“No, no! She's my little sister my mom had work so I had to watch her, why did you think I had a daughter?” I placed my hands on my hips and looked at him waiting.
