Chapter Four-

Dead Barbie Dolls

I walked quickly to Katie’s school trying to make it there before the bell rang for her class to get out. When I get there I’m breathing fast and she's just walking out of the door. She tugs on my hand.

“Dree- Dree, what's wrong?” she asked me concern written all over her big green eyes.

“Nothing,” I pause and catch my breath for minute, finally realizing how out of shape I am. “I had detention and I was almost late so I ran here.” I tell her finally able to speak and breath properly.

I was really going to start paying more attention in gym this year, well at least try to anyway.

“You got in trouble on the first day of school?” she asks me kind of excited.

“Yes, I did and no you shouldn't try to get in trouble either.” I tell her pointing my finger at her.

She nods and we start walking down the street of the school. The whole way home she's talking to me about her friends, and some little girl who was mean to her.

I hated to say it but it sounded as if she had her own Farrah on her hands. Then I stopped walking and turned to her.

“What’s the little girls last name?” I asked her dreading the answer.

She thinks for a moment and it's really cute because she’s thinking so hard her eyebrows knit together.

“I think it was Cole.” I sigh and rub my hands through my hair.

“Of course it is.” I mumble low enough so only I can hear. “Katie, I want you to stay away from her she's a bad person.” I tell her seriously. She nods in understanding and we continue our walk home.

Once we get there I take off my shoes and put them by the door making sure Katie did the same. She went upstairs to her room while I went in the T.V room to do homework.

Yes, homework and guess what class I had it in?

Literature, my favorite class. Note the sarcasm.

She gave us an assignment to write a poem, this is what I came up with;

Roses are red

Violets are blue

Literature stinks

And so do you.

I don't know about you guys but I say it's A+ material.

Since it only took me about five minutes to do homework I went into the kitchen and grabbed a banana, I ate it as I walked upstairs, and into my room. I ran and jumped onto my bed. I looked up to my ceiling and began thinking.

About work, school, my mom and Katie.

My mom didn't tell us how long she'd be gone, but it was usually around one month to two.

How would I be able to take care of Katie by myself for two months? Plus go to school and work?

I already know from experience that she won’t be able to handle herself when I take her to work with me. Or what if she got sick while I was in school, would I be able to go pick her up right in the middle of class?

I sighed and rubbed my fingers on my temples trying to soothe the headache I got. I sat up and walked down the hallway and into the bathroom.

I reached into the medicine cabinet and pulled out the aspirin. I took out two tablets, got a little Dixie cup full of water and took them.
