Chapter Three-
That's what she said....
Beep, Beep, Beep!!
I stuck my hand out of the blankets and immediately pulled it back wanting to be under the protection of the warm blankets again.
I lay in bed letting the alarm go on for another three minutes before getting annoyed.
Groaning I sat up and turned off my alarm. I stuck my bare legs out of the comforter. I grabbed clothes, my makeup bag, and walked out my door and down the hall to the bathroom.
This was the reason I hated school, you had to wake up early in the mornings, which I really wasn't found off.
After my quick 15 minute shower I got dressed and then did my makeup. The only things I really bothered to put on where a bit of eyeliner, mascara, and lip balm. Occasionally concealer if I really needed it.
I walked down the hall to get Katie up for school.
“Katie?” I said tentatively stepping into her pink room. I quickly turned on the light. My eyes found her doll and I shuddered. I really despised that doll.
It only had one eye – well two if you count the one hanging off - and half an arm.
“Mm?” she asked me still half asleep. I turned on the light and she squinted her eyes tightly before hiding under the comforter.
I sighed annoyed.
“Katie, if you get up now I will make you some blue-berry pancakes.” I said in a sweet sing-song voice. She got out after a minute and scowled at me. This caused me to laugh.
I walked into her room and made her bed for her, not before putting her doll face down near her closet though.
I heard the water running so I walked into the bathroom to help Katie shower quickly for school. Once she was done and dressed we made our way down stairs. She sat on one of the bar stools and leaned her head on the granite table top.
I got the pancake mix out and then found the blue berries. I gently taped Katie’s shoulder and she looked at me, I saw she was still groggy.
“Want to mix in the blue berries?” she nodded and started to stagger along toward me. I stopped her and pushed the bowl and berries toward her. She took them and poured them into the sticky batter.
I mixed them around a bit and then got the frying pan heated up. I sprayed non-stick spray onto the hot pan and spooned batter onto it. While the bottom side was cooking I got out my secret ingredient: sugar.
I sprinkled a pinch of sugar onto the top of each pancake. I know what you’re thinking, why give sugar to a 5 year old girl? So I wouldn't have to carry her all the way to school. I flipped the pancakes over quickly and sighed. I really wish I had my own car, but ever since my dad left we haven't had much money and I guess that's the reason my mom was always working.
The pancakes were finally done so I got out two cups and two plates. I set two pancakes down on a plate for her and set it down in front of her. I walked to the fridge and turned around toward her.
“Orange juice or milk?” I asked her. She thought for a minute.
“Orange juice.” I grabbed the carton of juice and the bottle of syrup from the black refrigerator.
I grabbed her glass and filled it up before handing it to her.
“How much syrup do you want?”
“A lot!” I didn't listen to her request to put a lot on, but I didn't give her a small amount either. She pouted for a second but finally picked up her fork and started to eat. After we ate I rinsed the dishes and put them in the dishwasher.
