Oliver stared at the book in his hands. It's cover was slightly creased from a previous owner and pages seemed to be dog-eared which normally for Oliver was one of the gravest offenses one could do to a book.
Surprisingly enough Oliver didn't mind. Flipping the book over and over in his hands Oliver had to intentionally restrain himself from the smile that tried to overtake his face each time he looked at the cover.
No one had ever done something like this before for him and it touched him at the very center of his being. He had always had to explain away his fascination with zombies, always having to make up excused as to why he needed another book about them or wanted to watch another movie. He had to explain it to his parents, to Jennifer, and there were times he had even felt the need to apologize to Rufus for making him sit through another movie with him.
But then there was Clara. And Clara it seemed was nothing like he expected. She was like a breath of fresh air after coming out of his last relationship, which had lasted for the last 8 months. Jennifer had been intense. She had wanted a ring, a career, and a house all while he was still trying to figure out what he even wanted to do with his degree.
Clara, she knew what she wanted. She at least seemed to know what the end result was and some of the stepping-stones in between. The difference between her and Jennifer was that Clara understood that there would be bumps in the row and she seemed willing to go with the flow and see where life took her. Jennifer was the complete opposite. If there was even a bump in her roadmap Jennifer was not happy.
So when Clara had handed him the brown paper bag and he had opened it to reveal the book it had changed his perception about everything.
Maybe it was ok that at 22 he still had no real idea what he wanted to do with his life. Smiling to himself Oliver opened the first page to the book and almost dropped it when he read what was written on the front cover.
I don't know a lot about zombies but I really hope this book is a good one.
It had raving reviews when I looked it up.
I really just wanted to return the favor of recommending a book,
even if it's the worst we can laugh about it over coffee.
But I really hope you do enjoy it.
Sincerely Yours,
Clara
