Clara paced absentmindedly in front of the lunch cafe while she waited for Oliver to show up. She had learned in the two weeks that they had been meeting up that he was either really early or perfectly on time. There seemed to be no way he'd allow himself to be late.
She held the phone to her face and counted the rings before it went to voice mail.
"Hey, you've reached Oliver Langston. If you're listening to this I obviously didn't get to the phone in time or I got eaten by zombies. Either way hang up and call again and I might answer. If not leave a message and I'll try to get back to you in a reasonable amount of time."
When the beep finally finished Clara stopped biting on the edge of her thumbnail and checked the time, "Oliver, it's me again. It's 1:34 and we were supposed to meet at Cafe Bella twenty minutes ago. I'm going to go ahead and get a coffee inside but I have to leave for class in a few minutes. Please call me back at least so I know you weren't actually eaten by zombies." Clara tried to smile and hoped that her concern wasn't too evident. "Okay, that's it. See you soon." Pulling her bag higher up on her shoulder and fixing Oliver's sweater that she was wearing she walked into the cafe to wait for him. Even though he didn't seem to be coming.
