Tomorrow's Past

Disclaimer: I made this for a school assignment, it's a pastiche that I made of the poem "Where I'm From" by George Ella Lyon.  This means that it is my OWN poem that I wrote, but in the STYLE of "Where I'm From", so I took a lot of influence from it. :)

Tomorrow's Past

I am from cupcake-scented candles,

from cartoons and plushies.

I am from the ants by the front door

(Small, crawling

they made me uneasy.)

I am from the neighbor's garden,

Whose plants I watered

as if I had planted them myself.

I am from lollipops and videogames,

from a closet and an iPad

I'm from the little bullies

and the friendships I had,

from birth until sixth grade.

I'm from The Golden Rule,

a Lutheran school

and visions I had for myself.

I'm from Dr. B's and grandma's house,

muffins and "sugar-free" ice cream.

From the arguments my parents had

in the kitchen

the ears I plugged to stay clueless.

Inside my head was a storage

filled with childish memories.

and imaginary fairies

to distract me from reality.

I am from those moments -

not knowing what's to come -

assuming how life always would be.
