The sky was still blue. I always imagined if I were to ever see a real fire, the sky would be filled with ash and red like the blood of its victims. But the sky was blue, and it was accompanied by the clouds.

I am in shock. What in the hell would have caused the fire? I watched my smokes. I look back at Johnny and Pony. Their faces are filled with fright, but mostly with anger. Most likely one of their damn cancer sticks.

Ponyboy jumped out of the car and ran towards the burning church. You could faintly hear the screams of children coming from the building. Children are so stupid.

Johnny followed Pony, Dally swearing after them to get back in the car. Yet, he didn't follow them and pulled me back into the car when I tried.

"Dally? What the hell?" I ask, trying to get up again but he pulled me back down.

"You ain't goin' in there. You are gonna get hurt, man," Dally orders. This makes me angry.

"I'm gonna help them whether you like it or not. I'm not one of your sex toys you can boss around and throw away when you're done," I spit, instantly regretting what I said.

"Aster...," Dally started but stopped. A hint of pain showed in his eyes for a split second but faded quickly into anger. "Go ahead. Burn yourself. You might as well get used to it cause bitches like you burn in hell anyway."

I freeze, feeling tears come to my eyes but quickly wipe it away. I get out of the car and run to the burning church.

I go to where Ponyboy and Johnny entered, but it was up in flames. I hear a shout from the side of the building and sprint towards the sound. It's loudest by a boarded up window.

"Johnny!" I holler, worried. The butterflies in my stomach have turned into Dorothy's tornado.

"In here!" Johnny yells back. I sigh in relief and feel a thousand tons lifted from my chest, but ten tons still remain. I have to get them out of there.

I try and tug at the boards, but I'm not strong enough to rip them away. Damn.

Somebody comes up behind me and picks me up, putting them to the side of them. The somebody is Dallas Winston.

"Move," he says, even though he moved me already. "Let a real greaser help." He rips off the boards like its nothing. I see Johnny, Ponyboy and kids inside through the flames and smoke.

"Here! Take 'em!" Johnny yells. He hands a kid to Dally and being a hood like he is, he throws the kid to the side. I run to the window and grab another brat. Me and Dally continue taking and throwing the kids. Many of them cry but at least they are safe.

I turn to grab another kid but Pony is climbing through the window. His back is on fire. Dally hits him in the back of the neck, and Pony falls down unconscious.

"Great, you killed him." But Dally ain't playing. The whole church is coming down, and Johnny is still inside. Dally races inside, and I try to too.

The church falls, and I am knocked out cold.

"Aster? Aster Rose Dillon? Is that your name?" somebody asks.

"My name is Aster Rose. Aster is my name," I reply, not opening my eyes. Whoever talked to me leaves. I guess they thought I was going to sleep.

I hear the television playing, a cartoon and I hear Minnie's voice. I groan and pull the pillow over my head, eyes still closed.

"Aster?" someone asks. I know exactly who it is.

"Hey Ponyboy," I mumble, slowly opening my eyes and tossing the pillow on the floor. I'm in a hospital room. The room is white, with a big blue stripe in the middle of the wall. It smells of a nursing home.
