Rainkit woke with a start. How much ti,e had passed? She gritted her teeth, stifling a yawn. Badgerkit was nowhere in sight, he must have left. The sun was much brighter; all the patrols were back. "Featherkit!" She heard Badgerkit call, "Come, get some prey, it's fresh!"
She nodded, padding towards the prey pile, and plucking a mouse from it. She settled down, near one of the 'paws. He glanced at her, flinched, and moved away from her. She bit back an irritated hiss; for that 'paw was Herronpaw, the cat whom she hated.
As she settled down to eat, her gaze flicked toward her foster mother, Gingertail. She glared at her, and Badgerkit edged farther away from her, closer toward his mother, and he shot her an angry glance. What is going on? Just a few moments ago, we were eating together!
She glared at Badgerkit, opening her mouth to question him. "Stop," He said. "I'm done playing as your friend. I hate you, and so does Gingertail. She only cares for you 'cause you're too stupid and small to fend for yourself." With that, he stalked away, leaving Featherkit gaping.
She couldn't believe it. . . She had no friends.
"Hey," someone said, and Featherkit saw that it was Lilyheart, Poppyclan's deputy, and mate of the leader, Fawnstar. "I see you're having trouble," She remarked. "Need friends, huh? Let's see. . . I think I got time for you."
Featherkit's ears pricked. "You'll be my friend? Thank you!" She purred. "No problem."
With that, Lilyheart visited the nursery every day, and from then on, she had a true friend. A true friend.
