Featherfoot lay sprawled on the grass. She watched as Hopkit and Frostkit played. She had been very relieved, as Badgertooth had not said anything to Fawnstar, at least not yet. She watched as Frostkit tumbled and battered Hopkit around. She turned, noticing as Glowpaw approached. "This one will be the future of the clan." He whispered, staring at Frostkit. She flinched, shifting away. Future of the clan? What does he mean? He padded away, leaving Featherfoot alone. It had been 2 moons later, and the kits were stronger. Rustle, rustle. Her ears pricked. She had learned to be aware of rustling noises. "Frostkit, Hopkit, come over here!" She called. They scurried toward her. Rustle, rustle. Again, she heard it. "Mother, what's that?" Hopkit squeaked. "Oh, it's nothing." She mewed, hoping it was true. Rustle, rustle. "Mother, what is that? Make it stop! Frostkit yelped. A scent hit her, overwhelming her. "Lilyheart!" She called. "Yes?" Lilyheart hurried over, frowning. Her ears swiveled, and she stopped in her tracks. "Get Frostkit and Hopkit to the nursery, quick!" She growled.
"What's going on?" Frostkit's voice shook. Featherfoot ignored her question and shoved them into the nursery. "Stay here!" She growled, fur on end. She heard a shriek, not a cat, but one of a dog. "Featherfoot! Look out!" She whipped around to see an enormous dog standing over her, mouth watering. She let out a yelp of surprise as it snatched up her body, shaking her. She was slammed against a tree, and the breath was driven from her. Her vision blurred, she could just make out the dog looming over her. "No! I won't let you kill her!'' She heard a voice- Fawnstar's- snarl. He lunged at the brute, teeth snapping. The dog snatched him by the throat and flung him away, where he lay motionless. "No!" Lilyheart screeched, and she leaped at the dog, snatching it by the throat, and digging her claws in. Blood poured from the wound, and she leaped away as the dog stumbled. It let out a howl of pain, and with one last glance at the cats, ran away. Featherfoot stiffly got up, heading to Fawnstar. Lilyheart was already over there, though. "Fawnstar," She whispered, "Oh, Fawnstar."
