"Featherpaw, from this day forward, you will be known as Featherfoot." Fawnstar rested his muzzle on her head, and Featherfoot licked his shoulder in response.
"Featherfoot! Badgertail! Featherfoot!Badgertail!Featherfoot!" The clan cheered. Featherfoot was brimming with pride. I'm a warrior at last! Lilyheart purred, licking her ears. "I knew you could do it." She purred. Badgertail curled his teeth as he looked at her. "You should have been Uglyface, not Featherfoot. That's too pretty for her." Featherfoot tried to ignore the comment, but it stung her. Is that really what Badgertail thinks of me? She shook her head. He's just angry that I'm such a great warrior! She felt fur brush against hers and saw Brightnose, the newly made medicine cat. "Great name!" He purred, licking her ear. Why is he acting like this again? Featherfoot wondered. He'd talk to her like that alone, purring and commenting on her. She kind of liked him, but of course, she couldn't. "Thanks." She muttered, embarrassed. He nodded, and for the first time, she saw something in his eyes. Does he like me? She wondered. He purred happily and then turned to head back to the medicine den.
A few moons later. . .
Featherfoot shifted in her nest. She and Brightnose had spent more and more time together. They had formed a close bond, and Featherfoot was worried. Am I going against the medicine cat code? She knew she wasn't a medicine cat, but they weren't allowed to mate with a warrior, or anyone.
"Featherfoot?" Featherfoot heard the rustle of bushes and turned to see Brightnose standing at the entrance to the den. Lizardstripe had recently passed due to greencough, and he was the only medicine cat. "I- I have to talk to you." He mewed. ''It's important." Featherfoot nodded and followed him to the medicine den. "So, what is it?" She whispered. "Featherfoot. . . I can't deny it. I. . . I love you, and I know you do too." Featherfoot felt heartbroken at his sad gaze. "I want you to be my mate, but we can't. . ."
"I- I want to be your mate, too," Featherfoot said. "But. . . But we can't. It's against your code."
"But, Featherfoot, haven't you noticed?"
"Noticed what?'' Featherfoot meowed, suddenly nervous.
"Can't you see? You're expecting my kits!"
"No!" Featherfoot gasped. "I can't be!"
"But you are." Brightnose said solemnly. "I never meant for this, I promise!"
"I know," She meowed. "I can't belive it though!"
"I know," Brightnose responded. "This needs to be secret. Don't tell anyone who the father is."
"Okay," Featherfoot meowed, trying to keep her voice steady. Brightnose nodded slowly, before turning away. Featherfoot headed back to her nest, feeling terrible.
