Featherfoot snarled as Brightnose pressed his paws down on her belly. "Get off!" She spat. His new apprentice, Glowpaw, shifted her paws anxiously. "Are we hurting you?" He mewed worriedly. "No, your not hurting her. Queens are crabby when giving birth; Featherfoot is one of those that are really crabby." He looked apologetically at her. She gritted her teeth, trying not to screech in pain, clenching her teeth down on a stick. "Here's the first one!" Brightnose purred. "A little gray tabby tom-kit!" Featherfoot looked warmly at her little kit, purring. She broke of as another burst of pain stabbed her stomach. "A she-kit!" Brightnose meowed, trying to hide the look of love and joy on his face. "Perfect! That's all. You're done now." Featherfoot let out a gasp of relief. "Go tell everyone the good news." He mewed to Glowpaw, who nodded, dashing off. She saw Twistedfoot, her former apprentice, glance worriedly into the nursery.
"They- They're perfect," Brightnose purred, rubbing his muzzle against her cheek. "What should we name them?"
Featherfoot frowned, thinking. "For the gray tabby one, maybe Hopkit?"
Brightnose nodded. "And for the little white tom, what about Frostkit?"
"Perfect," Featherfoot purred. She heard a small gasp, and saw Glowpaw staring at them. "You're- You're mates?" Brightnose sighed. "Please, don't tell anybody. Please!"
"O-Ok," Glowpaw stammered. "But. . ." His voice trailed off. "Now, go and look for herbs, or somthing." Brightnose mewed. With a flick of his tail, Glowpaw headed out of the den. She heard more pawsteps heading toward her, and looked around to see Badgertooth step in. "Hi," He meowed. "Your kits are beautiful. Who's the father?''
"Oh, uh. . ." Featherfoot felt panicked. "I- I. . ."
"It's okay," Brightnose mewed quietly to her. "Everyone's going to find out, anyway."
Featherfoot gulped. "Well- It's. . . It's Brightnose."
"Brightnose?" Badgertooth echoed. "Brightnose?"
"Yes," Featherfoot growled. "If you tell anybody. . ."
"I- this can't happen. We can't let it happen!" With that, he dashed out of the den. Oh, no! Featherfoot thought. "What will we do?" Brightnose whispered. "I don't know." Featherfoot replied.
