(Stark's POV)
We look above us to see the portal opening even wider than before, and a tidal wave of Chitauri and space eels come falling through the atmosphere.
"Uhhhh....... Call it Captain."
"Alright," he draws his eyes away from the oncoming army, "Until we can close that portal up there, we're gonna use containment. Barton, I want you on that roof over there, keep your eyes on everything. Call out any patterns or strays you see. Stark, you got the perimeter."
Something catches my eye from above, and I turn my head towards my half-fallen tower. "Guys?"
"Stark, pay attention. Anything more than three blocks out, you turn it back or you turn it to ash."
"Yeah yeah, but listen-"
"Thor, you gotta try and bottleneck that portal, slow them down. You got the lightning, light the bastards up."
"Guys."
"Romanoff, you and me, we're staying on the ground and we're keeping the fight here. Hulk?"
There's a grunt as the green monster turns to Rogers.
"Guys!"
There's a ten foot wide electrical shock-wave as something lands right in the middle of us all, wiping out at least a hundred nearby Chitauri.
Not something.
Someone.
(Y/n's POV)
My power is at full blast as electricity is being generated all over my body.
I slowly unfurl from my position, standing up straight to face the six shocked expressions that look at me.
"Hey guys. How's it going?"
"It was you," Thor says. "Up in the Tower."
"Yep. Surprise."
"Y/n....." Rogers steps forward. "How are you-"
"Alive? What, after none of you came to save me? Thanks for that by the way. No, Loki rescued me. So if any of you kill him, I kill you. Understand?"
Romanoff opens her mouth to say something, but I put a hand up to stop her before she can even get a word out. "You, you can save it. You dragged me into this shit, so I blame you for all this. I don't wanna hear a word."
I turn to face my favourite of the lot, "Hey Tin Man," I give him a fond smile.
He walks forward and wraps his arms around me, my power simply being soaked up by his suit, "Hey kid."
"Look, this is sweet and all," Rogers says, "but can we do the reunion and the questions later? We've still got space eels coming after us."
"Leviathans."
"What?"
"They're called Leviathans. Not space eels. Space eels sounds dumb."
"I tried to tell him," Stark says from beside me. "Idiot."
"Whatever. Can we just sort this out before anything else? Y/n, we need to know now. Do you stand with us or against us?"
I shrug, "For the battle, I'll stand with you. For the war, I guess we'll see."
"Good enough," Rogers nods. "You stay on the ground with me and Romanoff, take those bastards out. Hulk?"
The gruff beast looks to the Captain.
"Smash."
With a grin, the Hulk leaps away from us, grabbing one of the Chitauri and using it as a sledgehammer to wipe out many more.
"Fancy giving me a leg up, Cap?" Barton asks, indicating towards the legendary vibranium shield.
"You sure? She's strong."
"That's what I'm counting on."
Hawkeye takes a run up and uses the shield like a trampoline to boost him up into the air. He grabs onto the side of a still-standing building, and scales his way to the top with the window ledges as footholds.
Tin Man looks to me once more, we share a silent moment of understanding, before his rocket boosters power him into the sky and he starts to circle the perimeter.
Thor propels his hammer round and round, building up momentum, before allowing it to carry him up into the air and in the direction of the portal.
"Right," Rogers addresses the two of us that are still here. "We need to spread out and cover some ground, but we also need to round them up; keep them in one area. Take out the Chitauri, and if you see a Leviathan then try and send it over to the Hulk."
"Banner," Romanoff corrects him. "He's still Banner."
"I can take them out," I offer up, still glowing with charge.
"Look y/n," he says after batting a Chitauri away, "I get that you want to prove yourself-"
"I have nothing to prove to you. I'm not doing this for you, I'm doing this for the city."
"Right, whatever. Do what you want, just don't jeopardise the mission."
He may as well have just said 'I don't care'.
"You got it. And you make sure no-one kills Loki."
"Agreed."
Steve Rogers is an asshole, but New York City needs saving.
"Alright then. Spread out."
