(SHIELD, Y/n's POV)

I wake, cold and disorientated, in a room that has been mutilated beyond recognition.

Where Hulk and Romanoff once fought, there is now a pile of scrap metal and rocks. The sharp smell of smoke fills my lungs.

"It's Barton, he took out our systems," Fury says over the earpiece. "He's headed for the detention lab. Does anybody copy?"

"This is Agent Romanoff. I copy."

"Excellent. Forget everything else, you get straight to the detention lab."

"Copy that."

"Stark, we're losing altitude. How's the engine coming along?"

"Had noticed it. I'm working on it."

That's it. The line goes dead.

I try to push myself into a sitting position, but one of my arms is trapped under the rocks.

"Of course," I mutter aloud with an angry laugh.

I came running to help Romanoff, and there's no-one here to help me.

"Arghhhh," I groan as I try to pull it out. It doesn't budge at all and instead puts me in a ridiculous amount of pain.

It shouldn't hurt this much.

I look around me, trying to see if there's something I can use to wedge up the rock, but something catches my eye instead. It's orange, and bright, and hot.

There's a fire slowly spreading through the room and, if I remember rightly, there's quite a few highly explosive items in this room, and I'd rather not be scattered like confetti.

With my free hand, I reach up to tap my earpiece.

"Um, hey guys. Anyone around?"

"Kinda in the middle of a spinning rotor right now kid, what's going on?"

Of course Stark is the first one to hear me.

"Oh nothing much. You know, just kinda got ditched by Romanoff and Bogey Man. Room got destroyed, I'm trapped, there's a fire and now things are about to explode. The normal."

"You're what?" Thor asks.

"What's going on?" I hear from someone else, but it sounds quieter.

"It's y/n. She's trapped."

"Who's that?"

"Rogers. His earpiece is gone. We're tied up with Barton, who else is around?"

"Let's see. You and Steve are fighting this Barton guy. Stark is spinning in an engine. Banner is a big green muscle machine, and Romanoff is keeping him busy. That leaves...... No-one. Got it."

"Kid, I'm coming for you," Stark says. "Just hang on a few minutes so I can get out of here, then I'm coming for you."

I laugh ruefully, "I don't have a couple of minutes Tin Man. This place is going up in flames, and it's gonna take me with it."

"Use your power. Use your electricity, just do something!"

"Ever been in an electrical fire? I'd rather not."

"Y/n....."

"It's okay. I swear. But um, I'd just like to say something. Director Fury, if you're listening, if you even care, I just want you to know one thing."

"I'm listening," comes his deep voice.

Good.

"Glad you're here sir. I hate you."

"........You-"

"I hate you. You dragged me out of my safe little hole in the middle of nowhere to go chasing the very thing I've been running from. I didn't want to say it in front of everyone else but, here we are. I hate you. And I hope you get what's coming for you. Tin Man?"

"Yeah kid?"

"Thank you. You know the what-for and all that jazz, so thanks. And uh, keep doing top secret shit that no-one understands."

"You got it."

"Okay cool, so that's all I really wanted to say. Apart from that, I guess it's bye. It's been not fun, and I'll see you assholes in hell."

With that, I remove the piece from my ear and toss it into the flames.

I guess all that's left is to be snatched by the Grim Reaper.

I'm coming.

"What the hell...." I mutter.

I wasn't actually expecting Death to come and meet me. I figured it'd just be darkness.

I'm coming for you. Where are you?

What the hell is this? Last time I checked, there wasn't anyone around for me to read their mind, and I'm not actively trying to.

It's like...... It's like someone is reading a book to me, saying all the words aloud for me so I don't have to.

"Hello? Is there someone there?"

I try once more to pull my arm free, but all that I release is a gut-wrenching scream. It's so bad that I'm on the verge of passing out again.

Where are you?

It's getting louder.

"I'm in here! If there's anyone there, I'm in here!"

The sound of footsteps getting louder and louder, and then suddenly there's a familiar face looking at me through the flames.

"Hello y/n."

I squint, almost in disbelief that this person - this god - is really stood before me.

"Loki? How did you get out?"

"Would you like to talk about that now whilst you burn to death? Or would you like me to get you out, and we can discuss the details later?"

"Uh, well I guess I won't turn down a rescue."

So far, I've seen nothing particularly incriminating of Loki. He did in fact save my life once, and now it looks as though he may do it again.

The fire seems to part around him as he walks towards me.

"Hello darling, how you been?" he says with a sly grin as he bends to move the rubble aside.

I shrug with my good shoulder, "I can't lie I've been better."

My arm now free, he wraps one of his around my back and the other underneath my legs, and he picks me up in the style of the bride.

"Is this really necessary?"

"Hush now, I'm being a knight in shining armour."

I raise an eyebrow as I notice the sceptre strapped to his back, "Knights usually have swords."

"What can I say? I like to be unconventional."
