(SHIELD, Y/n's POV)

Steve leads Stark and I to the viewing room. Banner and Fury are already in there, watching Romanoff on a screen as she questions Loki.

"You threaten the world with war," we watch her say, "you steal a force you can't hope to control, you talk about peace and you kill because it's fun."

"It burns you to have come so close, doesn't it? To have the Tesseract, to have power. Unlimited power. And for what? A warm light for all mankind to share?"

"There's more to it than that."

"But that's the general idea, is it not? Power the world for an eternity? Think of how you're limiting it. Limiting yourselves."

"We just want peace."

"Not the same kind of peace that I want," he says and sneers as he moves back from the glass. "What is this? Some sort of balm to soothe my wounds from Fury? Is this a good cop, bad cop sort of scenario?"

"We'll call it whatever you want until you give us the information we need."

"I've already named my conditions."

"Yeah, y/n. I heard. Why her? What's so special?"

"Ouch," I mutter quietly. "Thanks Romanoff. Thanks a bunch. Bitch."

"Why don't you let me speak to her and you might find out?"

She looks at him warily, "Tell me why you want her."

"No, Natasha Romanoff. Tell me why you want her."

He grins wickedly as she turns on her heel and storms out of the room.

"He's got a point," I say to Fury. "Why do you want me?"

"Well, we believe that your particular skillset is unlike any other we've ever come across, and it could be extremely beneficial to us in the completion of this mission."

"Okay..... So you're exploiting me, is what you're saying?"

"Can't argue with that," Stark says from my side. "That's all they're doing. To all of us."

"Mr Stark, I can assure you-"

"Phase 2."

Fury closes his mouth and stares at Stark.

"What's phase 2?" I ask, confused.

"You wanna tell them or shall I?"

"I'm not sure I know what you're on about-"

"Phase 2 is where Shield is using the power of the Tesseract to make weapons of mass destruction."

Banner adjusts his glasses, but doesn't seem surprised.

Fury stands from his chair, "Perhaps we should discuss this after the interrogation?"

"Or maybe it's you who should be being interrogated," I say as Romanoff walks back into the room.

"Y/n. You're up. What's going on in here?"

"Nothing," Director Fury says quickly. "We'll talk after. Y/n, in you go please."

I narrow my eyes at the man before me, seeing him as nothing but I liar and manipulator, but I push this out of my mind as I leave to go see Loki.

"Come on," Natasha says as she leads me to the room. "It's this way."

She puts the code into the keypad, then pushes open the door for me to go in, but I pause in the doorway.

"No cameras."

"What?"

"I won't speak to him unless the cameras are off."

"Y/n, you know I can't do that."

"How much information do you think I'm gonna get out of him if he knows we're being watched?"

"It's too risky."

I look at her for a second, then shrug. "Okay. Fine. Have it your way."

She gently pushes me in and shuts the door behind me, and I wait for a second to hear the receding footsteps.

"Y/n-"

"Wait."

Loki falls silent behind me, watching my moves. I feel his eyes burning into my back.

I take off one of my gloves, and use my electricity to fry the pin pad, rendering it useless and deadlocking the door.

"Why-"

"Wait. I'm not done yet."

I then find the cameras that are watching the room, and I surge the wires and connections with my power, overcharging them until they're useless.

"There," I say and turn to face him. "It's just me and you."

"Indeed," he grins slyly at me.

"Why me? What's different about me compared to the others?"

"Well, your loyalties are not set on either side. You do not trust me, and you do not trust Shield."

"So?"

"So it's easier for me to try and explain things to you without you jumping to defend them."

"This organisation is full of liars, I have no intention of trying to defend them."

"That's something we can both agree on."

I keep my eyes on him as I start to circle his cell, "What do you plan on doing with the Tesseract? Because all that stuff about peace is bullshit, and I know it. Who are the Chitauri?"

He raises an eyebrow, "Exactly how much did you learn during your time at Hydra?"

"I'll answer yours if you answer mine."

"Very well. The Chitauri are a race. A species. They are cybernetically enhanced beings. Your turn."

"I learned enough to know that this will end badly no matter who has the Tesseract. What do you plan on doing with it?"

"I'm going to open a portal that will allow the Chitauri army to pass into this world. When we first met, you said Laufeyson. How did you come across that name?"

"When I was at Hydra, Doctor List used the Tesseract on me to give me powers. But he didn't give me my electrical powers, I already had those. He gave me the ability to read people's minds. And it's a name I found in his head when he was torturing me. Why do you want me on your side?"

One of his eyes twitches when he hears I was tortured, but still he continues, "I think that Shield will use you to their advantage and then toss you aside. I, however, would let you rule by my side. I think I could train you properly, and we could fight together, and you can get revenge on Fury. If you can really read my mind, what am I thinking about?"

I have a quick look, and I'm not surprised by what I find, "You think your brother is unworthy, regardless of him wielding the hammer. You think you are the rightful King of Asgard and you deserve to rule. What's the next step in your plan?"

There's a hammering from the other side of the door as people try to break in, "That's impressive I must admit. As for my next step, it's a surprise."

"You want me to trust you, don't you?"

"I've already saved your life once, what more do you need?"

"I mean ideally your whole plan would be great, but I'll settle for the next thing."

"Sorry darling," he smirks at me. "You'll just have to wait and see."
