Chapter 51. Milkshake

I see myself dead in Thornhill's basement.

Shifts to: I'm talking to Elijah at his office.

I say "You yelled at me for no reason, then you walked away, torture me with assignments, and avoids me for a week and now you showed up saying that."

Elijah says "Of course, I showed up. Why wouldn't I? You don't trust me?"

I say "I don't trust myself after you left me and I am not opening this again, I'm saying I changed after the accident to someone I don't know"

Shifts to: The Church, I sit between Jackson's arms staring at the dark night, I cry "Owen"

Jackson kisses my shoulder hugging me tightly "It's okay"

Shifts to: in Joe's bar.

Elijah says "We met at the bar dorm at church, do you remember two years ago? We met and you give me your perfect smile and say "Hi" and I said "you forget that" and we started a thing. We started this thing. You didn't know anything about me. Just the horribles that the original family did. You didn't know me. I want you to know me. I want to start over, from the beginning. So hi. Elijah Mikaelson."

Shifts to: Thornhill, I sit in front of my father.

Clifford says "You're not special and doing this, what the other will say about the family"

Shifts to: I'm in the morgue.

There's a reason surgeons learn to wield scalpels. We like to pretend we're hard, cold scientists. We like to pretend we're fearless.

I open the door to a freezer and see myself. The dead me says "You will never be special, Owen is dead because of you"

I wake up gasping for air and Elijah wakes up next to me "Lydia" I take a deep breath "You okay?"

"Yeah, nightmare, I'm fine"

But the truth is, we become surgeons because somewhere, deep down, we think we can cut away that which haunts us...

In Meredith's house, Meredith enters the dining room to find Alex, me and Izzie.

Alex is carving a pumpkin and Izzie is baking and I make milkshakes and melting chocolate.

Meredith asks "What are you guys doing up?"

Izzie, I and Alex say "Couldn't sleep."

Weakness, frailty...death.

Meredith nods "oh" she realizes I'm here "Lydia"

I say "Yeah, I couldn't sleep at home so I tried to sleep here"

Meredith dumps her moms' ashes into a Ziploc bag.

Izzie asks "What is that?"

Meredith says "My mother."

Alex gives us a look "Happy freaking' Halloween."

I make upside down cross at my body "Lord what a wonderful day" They stare at me "Satanic"

In the locker room. Meredith is in the locker room with us changing into our scrubs. Cristina asks "What are we looking at?"

Izzie says "Meredith put her mom in a baggie and brought her to work."

Meredith says "I had to get her out of my closet. She was haunting me."

I say "Maybe because she wants you to let her soul"
