You and Venus sat on your bed. She held you close, allowing you to sob onto her shoulder. You really liked Rochelle, but after everything she had done you felt obligated to leave her. Even if you weren't really dating, you felt a strong attachment to her. The fact that she had done that and broken your trust ruined you on the inside.
"I-Is it because she didn't trust me? I'm trustworthy! Was she going to hurt me? Was she going to rape me? Was she going to hurt my family?" You rambled. Images of dead loved ones entered your mind, making your breathing ragged. Venus rubbed your shoulder as she hugged you.
"No, it's okay. Everyone's safe." She hummed. "But you should have talked to the police."
"Don't scold me." You whined. "I don't want to hear it."
"Fine, I won't. But just know I'm doing this-"
"For my best interest." You interrupted. "I know."
She sighed. "Want to go get ice cream?" She asked. "It always makes you feel better. Even when you were little you loved ice cream to get over things."
Venus stifled a giggle as she reminisced about the past. You smiled sweetly. "You know me so well."
But Rochelle would have known you if you gave her the chance.
You cleared your mind of the thoughts. There were few things you didn't want to think about, and Rochelle was added to your list. She was a touchy subject now.
She could have made you a victim, for all you knew.
You didn't want to be another statistic.
Venus stood and stretched before offering you an outstretched hand. "Come on, let's go."
You stood and walked to your closet. "Let me put on a better outfit. I don't want to wear these clothes anymore."
Suddenly everything bothered you. The air, the temperature of the room, your clothing, your hair, your skin. You pulled on your hair lightly to ease the feeling of your hair stretching (as dumb as it seemed), and you pinched your skin gently to get rid of the feeling of maggots digging through it.
Venus noted that this was a sign of severe panic. You were a very organized, scheduled, in control person. The fact that your control had been disrupted had only increased your anxiety.
Venus walked over and steadied your shaking hand. "You're okay, your hair looks fine."
"What about-"
"No, your skin's the same too."
You sighed and looked down. You felt dramatic, yet stuck in your emotions. You couldn't shed them, no matter how hard you tried. Taking a deep breath, you pulled off your shirt and exchanged it for a new, classier shirt. Then, you changed your pants into a cuter pair, then your shoes for a more comfortable pair. You felt better almost immediately, shedding the clothes felt like shedding your skin, allowing you a new look. Though it helped, the feeling still loomed over you.
Together, you strolled out of the house and down the street.
Rochelle walked solemnly on the other side of the street, her mind in a daze and her eyes focused on the road.
She might as well have jumped out infront of cars. She might as well have hung herself. She might as well have sliced her wrists open. She might as well have killed herself, because being without you hurt worse than any other pain she could imagine.
Her eyes wandered across the sky and the people walking past her. From the corner of her eye, she caught you. You walked with Venus so casually, it were as if Rochelle never existed.
Red hot anger bubbled in her. Why would Venus be hanging around you? Shouldn't you be grieving the fact that Rochelle couldn't be your friend anymore? Was she really that worthless?
No, she convinced herself. She wasn't the issue. Venus was.
Venus seemed to have a thing for you. Rochelle was sure of it. Why else would she be trying to keep you apart so much?
Rochelle smiled as she walked up to you, her dazed mind only adding fuel to the fire she was creating.
"Hey." She mumbled, her hands behind her back and her head down low. "How are you?"
"Stay away, Rochelle." Venus warned.
"Or what?!" She snapped.
"You don't want nothing with me." Venus said.
You watched carefully as Venus held a taser in her hand. Rochelle stomped up to her, but before Rochelle could throw any punches she was on the ground, writhing in pain. The taser had gotten her. Venus grabbed your hand and took off running, leaving you to stumble your way after her.
"She's fucking crazy!" Venus said.
"I know!" You whined.
"Couldn't have gone for anything less, I don't know, psychotic?!"
"Don't judge my taste!"
You finally came to a stop and heaved a sigh of relief. "Can we go eat now?" You breathed.
"Yeah." Venus said with a smile. "We can."
