Nani crawled out of her bed quietly to meet Neteyam outside at their usual time. She crept her way out of her room and nearly yelped out when she saw a figure standing in the middle of the marui.

"Ao'nung!" She whisper yelled. "You scared the shit out of me."

"Where are you going?" He crossed his arms.

"I cannot sleep, I need to take a walk." She whispered, making her way past her little brother.

"You do this every night?" He replied at a normal volume, not even trying to be quiet.

"Ao'nung, can you please shut the hell up before you wake up mom and dad?"

"I will come with you then." He shrugged, following her out of their home.

"Ao'nung please!" She whispered, "I'm going to the spirit tree. I want to be alone with our ancestors, please."

Her brother paused and raised a brow, he wasn't buying her story, but he wanted her to know that he had leverage on her, as siblings do.

"Just be safe." He huffed and turned to go back into the home.

Nani waited a few moments until turning to look for Neteyam. She was used to him waiting on a dock nearby but tonight he was not there. Suddenly his slim figure sneaked out from behind another home.

"I heard you speaking to someone inside." He whispered as he came out of hiding.

"Just my skxawng bother." She sighed, "Come on. Let's go before anyone else wakes up."

The pair made their way to the beach where they could finally speak normally. As soon as they made it away from the village Nani turned towards the boy and embraced him. Wrapping her arms around his neck and burying her face into his chest. Every day she waited until the moment they were alone to finally be able to hold him.

Neteyam's body vibrated from the soft chuckle he let out, wrapping his arms around her waist and planting small kisses to the side of her face. No one had ever experienced Nani'ite to be so soft, only Neteyam had the privilege. She felt comfortable being vulnerable with him in a way she had never felt.

"So, what did you want to ask Eywa about?" Neteyam whispered in her ear, moving his hands to rest on her hips.

"You." She said looking up to the boy.

"I thought the approval from your spirit sister was enough." He grinned down at her, rubbing circles into her skin as he spoke.

"I need clarity, Neteyam."

He noticed her seriousness and straightened up a bit, dropping his playful tone. "What all do you need to know?"

Nani played with a few of his braids from the back of his head with her arms resting on his shoulders, looking down at the sand below them. Not wanting to make eye contact with Neteyam.

"I am next in line to lead the Metkayina clan." She said lowly, "I am 18, it is only a matter of time before my parents choose a man for me to... to mate with."

"And do you want them to choose for you, Nani'ite?" He asked, tilting her chin up with his thumb, forcing eye contact.

"I have already chosen." She nearly whispered.

"I have chosen too." His eyed softened, "We do not need to rush this. I want to take our time, Nani. This your parents would have to understand."

"They won't" She shook her head, with tears forming in her eyes. Nani quickly backed out of Neteyam's hold and cleared her throat, suppressing her tears. "We need to ask Eywa for guidance."

Neteyam nodded his head and grabbed Nani's hand. The two had not known each long, but they knew one another deeply. Their timeline was short, but it had depth. Neteyam learned everything about Nani that there was to know. He was constantly asking questions about her life, wanting to learn everything there was to know about her. He knocked down all the wall's she built up to protect her heart. Wall's she only built from years of trying to be the perfect daughter, the flawless sister and the toughest leader.

The two made their way into the ocean and shared an Ilu to swim to the Cove of the Ancestors. As they arrived, they rode above the surface, admiring the beauty of the destination at night. The tree below lit up the entire ocean around them, causing a dim light to shine on each other's face.

"Are you ready?" Neteyam asked Nani, she replied with a nod and the pair made their way down to the spirit tree.

They swam together in front of one of the branches, looking over at one other, each holding their own queue. Neteyam grabbed her free hand and the pair connected to the same branch at the same time. Instantly they were both pulled into the same vision.

There stood Nani'ite, in their spot of the jungle the two had claimed, but this time there was sunlight. She turned around, looking for Neteyam until something below her caught her eye. Her belly.

Her stomach poked out, insinuating the only thing it could be; she was pregnant. She looked up to see Neteyam, smiling down at her and planting a kiss on her forehead.

"Hello my love." He whispered, then taking a knee to be face to face with her belly. Planting yet another kiss on her stomach, "Hello my little warrior boy."

"And if she's a girl?" Nani raised a brow down at him.

"She will be my mighty warrior. Beautiful, just like her mother." He rubbed her belly and stood back on his feet.

Above them in the tree was a marui. Nani tilted her head; she had never seen a mauri built up so high in a tree before. But she remembered the stories Neteyam had told her from when he was a child, how he was raised in a marui in the forest before the sky people returned.

Nani smiled at Neteyam climbing up the tree into their home. She knew in her heart that he had built that marui for them, alone in their jungle. To start their own family.

In an instant the vision was over, and Nani's eyes went wide. She turned to Neteyam to see if he had saw the same thing she did. His pupils dilated as he looked into Nani's eyes. They both detached from the tree and swam to be above water.

"Nani!" Neteyam huffed as he broke the surface.

"I have no more doubts, Teyam." Nani'ite said to the boy, wrapping her legs underwater around his waist. He wrapped his arms under her bottom and held her body up.

"I see you, Nani'ite. I see it all so clearly. I want that life for us." He said looking into her eyes.

"And so, we will have it." A tear escaped her eye as she smiled, then leaned in to kiss Neteyam.
