"who the fuck are you?"

[<3]

it's a Friday night in California, people roam the streets whether it's by walking or driving. never once is it not busy even at 12am at a convenience store.

I pull into a parking spot with my music playing, not too loud but loud enough for me to jam to. I turn the car off and head inside to pick up some snacks.

I just got off work at the radio station down town and now I'm headed home, the drive is about an hour so I'm stopping to grab snacks.

the bell above the door chimes and I grab a bag of chips and a Red Bull.

"$5.36." the dude says. I pay and thank him before leaving.

I get in the car and lock the doors before scrolling through Spotify to find a song to listen to, but immediately stop when there's a sudden knocking on my door that scares the shit out of me.

I look at the culprit with wide eyes, both confused and scared. my phone is gripped in one hand and my keys in the other.

"please! I need help!"

still in shock I don't say anything and just stare.

"I'm begging! they are going to find me!"

I slowly roll the window down a little, "I'm sorry but I can't help you." I go to roll the window up but his voice stops me.

"please I'll pay you anything! I promise! I just need your help!"

"who are you running from? the cops?"

"no, just no! I'll explain if you please let me in!"

"absolutely not -" I'm cut off by screams coming from down the street. I look at him confused and see his eyes full of fear and a pleading look on his face.

I sigh and unlock the door, "okay, get in."

"thank you!" he gets in and immediately starts looking for something.

"you have a hat or something?"

"uh yeah," I reach behind the passenger seat and throw him a huge hoodie. "here."

"thanks can you please drive?"

"I don't even know you nor do I know where you're going! I'm not a fucking Uber!"

"just please, I'll explain once you start driving, but if you don't we are both going to be in a lot of shit! so please for the sake of us both, drive!"

I put the keys in the ignition and back out of my spot just as I notice a hoard of teenage girls run around the corner. my eyes wide as I look back at him and he just nods with scared eyes.

with that I take off out of the parking lot and down the road.

"not to be rude but who the fuck are you and why are you running from teenagers?"

"uh right," he pauses and I look at him with a "are you going to tell me" look before turning my attention back to the road. "my names Noah, what's yours?" he doesn't answer the second question.

"where am I taking you?" I ignore his question while taking a left at the stop light.

he gives me an address and I put into my phone. great. he lives 5 minutes from me. this is going to be a long hour.

"so are you going to tell your name?"

"are you going to tell me why you were running from a bunch of teenagers?" another left turn.

"well I'm in a band, it's called bad omens. I guess this year we gained some popularity and well," he gestures out the window with a sigh. "yeah."

at first I don't believe him and almost laugh out loud until I see the look on his face.

"you aren't kidding, are you?"

he shakes his head.

"damn, I mean that's great for y'all but terrible at the same time. no one deserves to be chased by crazed fans."

"yeah, but anyways what your name? you still haven't answered."

"Kennedy."

"well nice to meet you Kennedy." he smiles.

I take a quick glance at him with a small smile on my lips, "yeah. you too."

the rest of the ride isn't as bad as I thought it would be. we sat in silence for the majority of the time before I decided to play some music.

"so why are you so far away from your house with no ride?"

"that's a good question. I kinda just went for a walk and then I guess I lost track of how far I had walked. I was heading back when they all started to run after me. why are you out so late anyways?"

"got off work and wanted snacks on the drive home." I shrug my shoulders.

"where do you work?"

I give him a side eye debating on telling him.

"what? I'm not gonna stalk you, just curious."

I sigh.

"the radio station on 25, the music box."

"oh shit, really? I did an interview there about a month ago."

"oh that's cool, it's a nice place."

"so I take you're really into music?"

"I mean I guess so, I like being able to control what songs are played and add whatever song I feel is best to be played. now that I think about it, I've played your songs before. they're really good by the way. y'all are very talented."

"thank you, that means a lot."

"yeah no problem."

I pull up to his house soon after our conversation.

"again, thank you so much! you literally saved my ass, I owe you."

"you're welcome," I give him an awkward smile waiting for him to get out. "well goodnight."

"goodnight." he gets out and shuts the door. when he gets to the door, he looks over his shoulder and waves before walking in.

once the door closes I drive off in the direction of my apartment complex confused on the events that took place tonight.
