"momma?"

the air leaves my lungs as tears fall from my eyes. I haven't seen my mother in months, but it feels like years.

"oh my baby." she rushes over to me and holds me in her arms in a loving embrace.

I cry on her shoulder, hating that this is how she has to see me fir the first time in months.

it's just her and I in the room.

"where's dad?" I ask.

"he wasn't able to make it because of work, but he told me to tell you that he loves you so much and he can't wait to see you when you get better." she kisses my forehead while I curl into her arms.

"so that Noah boy, he your boyfriend?" she asks.

my cheeks turn red and I laugh through the left over tears, "yeah, he is."

"I like him. he's a good man, I can tell."

I just smile up at her and she returns it. it meant everything to me to hear her say she approved of him and I together.

"he is."

she stayed with me for the next hour. everyone was eating in the cafeteria.

"how long are you going to be here?"

"a week. I'm staying in a hotel not far from the apartments."

the doctor soon comes in, "ms. Morgans, I have some good news! you'll be good to leave first thing tomorrow morning. all of your test have been great, we would like to keep you over night just to make sure your lungs are perfect and your breathing isn't irregular. you did take in a concerning amount of smoke, but like I said you should be good as new tomorrow morning. it's a miracle you made it out of there, now take care. we will have your papers ready in the morning."

"thank you, doctor."

and with that, he's gone.

"my little miracle." my mom says hugging me tightly.

I'm sitting up in my bed now, visiting hours were long over and Noah somehow managed to stay by my side. it's about 11pm.

my mom will be back in the morning to help get me situated and help with anything medical wise.

"this jello is good." I say to Noah as I spoon jello into my mouth.

"you should be eating the other food too, you know." he says with a breathy laugh.

I just shrug at him and continue to eat the jello.

so far I only have stitches in my feet from the glass, everything else is fine. I have to stay off of my feet for a while tho, like 2 to 3 weeks. plus, the bandage wrapped around my hand, concealing the throbbing burns.

then it hit me that I no longer have a place to live.

"where am I going to go? the apartments burned down." I sigh.

"you can stay with us if you'd like, we have a quest room that you can stay in until you find a place. we can even help you find one too."

"I don't know, Noah. I don't want to invade on y'all's privacy like that."

"oh please, says the girl who at anytime of the day will barge into our house, whether it's locked or not and steal our food. you're fine, you won't be intruding or anything like that. just think about it." he says kissing my forehead.

"damn the first full day we spend as a couple, I'm in the hospital." I laugh.

he laughs too.

soon he crawls in bed with me after I kept begging, and we're cuddled next to each other.

"thank you for being here." I look up at him.

"of course baby. I'll always be here if you need me." he gives me a sweet kiss.

I really got lucky.

"I'm happy to get out in the morning. this bed isn't comfortable at all." I groan into his shoulder.

"just a few more hours, Ken. get some good rest. I'll be here in the morning."

he kisses me once more and then soon we both fall asleep on the uncomfortable hospital bed.
