When you feel yourself slip back into consciousness, you think you're still in the ambulance for a few seconds. A hand is still holding yours and someone is stroking your hair. Yet the pain is fainter, almost gone. Your head doesn't feel as dizzy. The cut in your abdomen is hitching slightly. And you're in a comfortable bed, and machine beeping sounds start making you anxious. It beeps slightly faster along with your heartbeat. The person stroking your hair shifts slightly. You decide to open your eyes.

The light isn't too bright, but it's still hard for you to adapt to it. You first see your legs under a blanket, laying in the bed. They feel heavy, tired. You don't try to move them.

You're in a hospital room. Judging by the dim lights and overall darkness of the room, it's still night. Or was it the same night? How long have you been out?

You don't have much time to keep wondering, the person stroking your hair grabbing your free hand and coming into sight.

Long brown hair and round glasses. Mona.

"Hi," you croak out, smiling in relief. "What's up?"

"You getting head trauma, apparently," she frowns. "How did you manage to fall down the stairs of your own house?"

"I did that?" You squint your eyes, confused. Oh, this was probably the lame excuse your friends, or some government agents trying to cover up the incident, had found. You wondered how they had explained the deep scratch in your abdomen. "Oh, yeah, well, you know, I'm dumb. Can't even walk around in my own house, ahah."

The other hand that was held was squeezed slightly. You shift your head on your pillow to see Steve. He was sleeping, hence his lack of reaction to your great return to consciousness, sitting on a chair next to you and head resting on your bed. Now that you paid attention to him, you could hear his quiet snores.

"He hasn't let go of your hand all day," Mona reveals. "Said you asked him to."

"All day? What do you mean?"

"You've been out for the whole day. Steve found you early in the morning, and now it's about 10PM. I came as soon as he called me."

"Steve called you?" You grunt, looking at your sleeping brother next to you. You wiggled your fingers to make the numb sensation go away, but his grip only tightened.

"Yeah. Said you'd probably be happy to see me when you wake up. He was right, wasn't he?"

"Mona, I have never been happier to see you. Please marry me, queen of my heart."

"Great. I'm happy to see you're back to normal. I should probably get a doctor. Or a nurse," she says, and you nod. She exits the room, leaving you with the beeping of machines and fake snores of your brother.

"You can stop pretending now," you nudge his head softly. He sits up, embarrassed he got caught eavesdropping.

"I didn't mean to. I kinda woke up when you were talking but it woulda been awkward if I jus-"

"Shut up," you interrupt him. He nods obediently. His grip on your hand loosens, as if he was going to drop it. You hold him back. "The boys?"

"They're fine. They found Will," he explains.

"They did? Thank god," you sigh. "How are they?"

"Hopper and Joyce are fine. The kid's in pretty bad shape, but he'll be fine. He woke up some time ago. Hey..."

"Nancy and Jonathan? What were you doing with them?"

"(Y/n), calm down, okay? Calm down. I was with them because I went to Jonathan's house to apologize. I said some fucked shit-"
