A Beating

"This empress understands your concerns." The empress responded. "I will still bestow this marriage upon Ying Wenqian, and Liang Hong." The empress continued making Wenyi frown.

"Please-" Wenyi tried to plead but was interrupted.

"Hear my decree! Ying Wenqian, the fourth young master of Duke Ying's mansion is to be engaged with General Liang Hong. They will be engaged for a year, and if one of the parties does not see the other fit for them by the end of the engagement, the engagement shall be nullified. But if they like each other and wish to remain together by the end of their engagement, they should be married next year on the tenth month, on the eighth day." The empress decreed.

"To hear is to obey. We will gladly accept his majesty's decree." The Ying family responded as they kneeled.

"Ok, so everything is solved now right?" The empress asked as he prepared to stand up.

"Yes, I thank your majesty and apologize for the trouble." Imperial Wife Ying said as she bowed.

"Ok, then I will leave the celebration in your hands, meimei. This empress is tired and will be returning to his chambers." The empress as he walked towards the exit with the emperor following him out.

The empress had been feeling a little stuffy and sleepy inside the banquet so he took this chance to go and take a nap. The emperor of course followed him out. The empress didn't even bother saying anything to him as he had been doing this since the moment he decided to co-parent with him, but seeing him walking with him all the way to his palace the empress couldn't help but turn and say something.

"My children's father is there something that you need," The empress asked with a plastic smile, as he turned to face the emperor.

"My children's father?" The emperor couldn't help but mumble the unusual way the empress addressed him. But for some reason, his heartbeat increased hearing the empress call him that, and for a while without him noticing he started smiling like a fool.

"Emperor...?" The empress asked seeing the emperor smiling at nothing.

"Ah, I will be going back now. I was just walking you to your palace," The emperor said as he hurried back to his palace.

"Ummm okay?" The empress responded confusedly as he also made his way to his palace.

The empress took a very long nap and woke up in the afternoon. When he saw Li Dani laughing so historically, he asked him if there was something wrong. According to Li Dani, as soon as the empress fell asleep the Grand Emperor called the emperor into his palace and gave him a harsh beating. It was so back that he bled, and the screams of the emperor could even be heard by other palaces. After the beating, he brought the emperor to Yun Shi's father's mother and made him kneel and apologize, the same happened with the empress's family. 

He then made the emperor apologize to his own family that was harmed by his toxic behavior. The Empress Dowager broke down and cried, but she still got up and beat him. The Grand Princess also broke down a little but she barely showed it and instead beat him even more. You could say that the whole family basically turned him into a punching bag. It was Tao'er who went to beg for mercy for his father.

"Really? All of this happened and you didn't wake me up to go watch? And here I thought we were best friends." The empress said as he sulked. He missed such a good show.

"You really think I didn't try to wake you up? It was you who refused to get up." Li Dani refuted.

"Whatever you say," The empress responded as he got up from bed.

"The children are eating dinner, do you want to join them?" Li Dani offered as he gave his hand to the empress for support.

"Sure, what's for diner?" The empress asked.

"Braised pork and beef, rice, shrimp porridge, tofu soup, and chicken soup."Li Dani responded.

"Desserts?" The empress asked.

"The usual," Li Dani responded.

"Being pregnant with four children at once is so difficult. I feel like I have to eat a whole table's worth of food to be satisfied." The empress groaned.

"Well, that is understandable since you are eating for five. The four children in your womb plus you." Li Dani comforted.

"Li Dani never get pregnant, you hear me? Morning sickness, mood swings, hormones, your bladder, all of these problems come with pregnancy. God knows I warned you if you still get pregnant something is definitely wrong with you." The empress warned as he stepped into the dining hall.

"So you want me to be childless?" Li Dani asked the empress with a chuckle.

"Up to you to decide," The empress said as he sat down.

"I can't with you," Li Dani mumbled as he shook his head.

"Hello my babies, why do you look so happy right now?" The empress asked as he smiled.

"Hello mother, well just something that happened," The Crown Prince responded

"Father got beaten!"Ruan'er responded eagerly as she took another bite of her meat. The empress was surprised to hear her calling the emperor father. It seemed like there was progress in their relationship.

"Really, how did you guys know?" The empress asked as he started eating.

"We were over at grandmas palace and suddenly we saw grandpa coming in with father. He was very pale, but grandpa made him kowtow to grandma and to the aunties and uncles in the room. Suddenly grandma started crying and took off her slipper and beat father with it. It was so funny." Ruan'er giggled as she recounted what happened to her mother.

"I guess you guys had fun, by the way, where is Tao'er?" The empress asked as she looked around the table.

"He went to the Dragon Palace to console father." The Crown Prince responded, his voice filled with disappointment. He couldn't believe that Tao'er felt bad for that man. He's already turning into a major daddy's boy. The empress couldn't help but laugh seeing the face of her eldest son.
