AMARI ROUSSEAU

I ran out of the warehouse with tears streaming down my cheeks. Where the fuck am I? I looked around to try and figure out where I was but I seriously had no clue.

Blue came out of a car that wasn't too far behind me and opened the door for me. I ignored him and kept walking. He got back in and started to slowly drive along side me whilst I walked on the pavement. "You don't know where you're going, Mar."

"I do."

"Let me take you home, it's dark and a long walk back to yours. I can't leave you out here by yourself. Besides, Mae would kill me if she knew I just left you out here." I looked over at him and nodded before getting in the car.

About ten minutes into the drive, Blue looked over at my phone as I typed. "What are you doing?"

"Sending Nikolai my letter of resignation." I said with a shrug.

"You can't just quit, Amari."

"Why, will one of your men kill me if I do?" His expression softened and he stopped the car and faced me.

"That's not how it works."

"How am I to know? I just found out about this shit like fifteen minutes ago. You all lied to me." I said, not being back to contain my anger towards the entire situation.

"I know and we're all sorry you had to find out the way you did. We just wanted Nik to tell you in his own time."

"You didn't think as the months kept going by that he'd waited enough and one of you guys should've just told me?" He stayed quiet. "Does Mae know?"

"I told her two weeks in."

"So why didn't Niko tell me?"

"He was scared, Mar. You need to understand it's different for me and Si, we're his right hands. We don't play as big as a role as Nik does. He's the head, his kids will take over wants he retires or dies, it's hard to have to tell someone you love that."

I felt my eyes well up with tears again and I turned to face the window. "You only have one right hand so that's- that's fucking... stupid." I scoffed and he let out a quiet chuckle. We stayed in silence for the rest of the drive but Blue broke it when we got closer to my house.

"I got someone to take your car back to your house, they'll leave your phone, purse and key in there for you." I looked down at the car screen and saw it had just gone past twelve.

Shit, Papa is gonna be worried sick.

"Did you tell Papa where I was?" He shook his head.

"Sorry, did I have to?"

"I went to do the food shop just before eight, he's gonna think something's happened to me."

"Oh shit." Blue said as he pulled up in front of the house. Papa slammed a man against my car, his hand gripping his throat tightly.

"What the fuck have you done with my daughter? Why were you in her car?" I quickly ran out of Blue's car and went to him. "Who do you work for?"

"Papa, I'm ok. Look, I'm fine." His expression softened and he turned to face me, pulling me into his arms.

"Oh, my baby girl. I thought something had happened to you."

"I'm ok, Papa." I said, smiling weakly, I felt my eyes tear up and he looked down at me.

"What's wrong? Where've you been? Are you hurt?" His eyes moved off of me and focused on something behind. He looked at Blue sternly.

"It wasn't him, let's just go inside." Papa nodded slowly and I thanked Blue for the lift and I watched as the man, who Papa had against my car, got into Blue's before they drove off.
