AMARI ROUSSEAU

We sat down talking for a while and she was going on and on about the outfit she'll pick out for me. Papa came down in his work clothes, interrupting us.

"The school called."

"What did he do this time?" I asked, referring to Antoine.

"He got into a fight."

"Again?" Liv asked.

"Second one this month, he's just like his sister."

"I'd just like to defend myself and say all of my fights were justifiable."

"You whacked a girl on the head with your lunch tray in secondary school because and I quote: 'she looked at you wrong.'" I side eyed her for baiting me out.

"Yeah, to this day I still don't understand what you meant by that." Papa said.

"I felt threatened." I said with my hands up in defence.

"Girl, you were just acting a fool. She had a lazy eye, she wasn't even looking at you." Liv said, shaking her head at me.

"I didn't know that until after I hit her."

"Ok, enough of that-"

"Yeah, Olivia." I said childishly, making her laugh.

"You have to pick Antoine up."

"Papa, why can't you do it? I wanna stay at home with Manny." I whined, throwing myself back dramatically onto Liv.

"I'm going to work, I won't have time."

"Fine, I'm taking Liv with me."

"Yeah, not happening. I've got someone to meet."

"You're ditching me for dick?"

"Sorry, bye, love you." She said quickly, kissing me on the cheek, doing the same to Manny before quickly walking towards the door. "Bye, Mr Rousseau." She called out as she ran to her car.

I groaned to myself. "Here, you can take the Rover. I'll take one of the others." Papa said, tossing me the keys with a smile on his face. How nice of him.

Papa had made quite a bit of money, working his way up the law firm he had worked at since we came to London. He was now one of the higher positions so we were in no way struggling for money but we stayed in the house Papa's grandparents had left for him simply because it was home, we couldn't leave.

"Be quick, Mar, he's waiting for you." I sighed to myself and shook my head. "Come on, baby, let's get you dressed."

I closed the car door and made my way to the reception, holding Manny's hand. I had to change out of the clothes I was wearing before to wear something more formal. "Hey, I'm here for Antoine Rousseau. I think he's with the principal."

"Oh, we were expecting his father, he usually come to collect him whenever this happens." The woman chuckled. "Are you his mother?"

"God, no. I'm his sister." She nodded and told me to follow her. She knocked on the principal's office door before letting me in. A woman was shouting at Antoine as he sat, messing with his hands.

"Ok, just to start, who are you and why are you yelling at my brother?"

"I'm the mother of the child your brother annihilated." There's no way she just said that. I laughed to myself and shook my head.

"Ma'am, did you just say annihilated?"

"Yes! What's so funny?"

"Nothing, nothing." I mumbled.
