AMARI ROUSSEAU
I awkwardly sat down, refusing to make eye contact. "You left these at my place." He said, putting my earrings in front of me. That's where they were. I took them and put them in my pocket. "You also left your pants at mine but I thought I'd hold onto those."
"Because that doesn't sound creepy at all." I mumbled.
"I searched you up after you left and realised you had an interview with our firm so I thought we could use this time to talk about what happened between us."
"Uh-uh. I came here for a job interview. The job I've been dreaming about getting. Shit, is what happened between us going effect my chances?"
"What, the fact you left without saying goodbye or even leaving a note? No, of course not, that would be unprofessional of me." I let out a sigh of relief and looked up at him.
We agreed on it being a one night thing but I still feel guilty. I'd be lying if I said I haven't been thinking about him since then. Even when I kissed Danny, I couldn't help but compare it to Nikolai's kisses.
Danny's my bestfriend, I shouldn't have kissed him. I don't know why I did it. But I did agree to myself that I wouldn't make up excuses anymore and if dating Nikolai was something he'd be willing to try then I'd give it a chance.
But then I'd actually have to admit that I want it. I don't know if my ego can take a hit like that.
"Princess? Where'd you go?"
"Sorry, got lost in my thoughts."
"You've got the job."
"What?" I said in shock. "We haven't even started the interview yet."
"You're qualified for it and you have the experience, there's no need for an interview. I trust you'll work hard and do all you're supposed to."
"No, I prepped so damn hard for this. You'll give me a proper interview." He rolled his eyes.
"Fine."
—
He did the interview like originally planned and he had an impressed look on his face. "Like I said before, you've got the job."
"You're not giving it to me because of-"
"No, Amari, I'm not. I'm giving it to you because, you're qualified for it. It's clear you've worked hard for it too. I've had almost twenty people apply for a job but you're by far the best."
"Thank you." I said, getting up from the chair.
"We're not done, princess. We still need to talk." I sighed heavily before sitting back down. I was hoping he'd forgotten. "How's your arm?"
"Huh?"
"You burned your arm, how is it?"
"Oh, it's ok. I've got an appointment so they can drain the blister but other than that it's all good." He nodded. "How did you know about that?"
"Olivia."
"She told you?"
"Nope, she told Silas and he told me. I was gonna come and visit you but Olivia and Silas told me not to. But Silas also told me about your new little boyfriend." Nikolai said spitefully.
"I don't have a boy- wait, you mean Danny? We're not dating."
"But you kissed him."
"And I had sex with you but we're not anything so what exactly is your point here, Nikolai?"
