Jenna's POV:
I'm at a bookshop in my hometown right now, I managed to find it sandwiched between a coffee shop and a thrift shop, there's an upstairs that's wider and another entry which I didn't realise. It's really beautiful though, I might come here tomorrow... and the next day... and every day for the rest of my trip home.
I begin to walk upstairs and as I do, I watch a girl holding a whole box, a couple of books being stacked and she notices one about to fall, I reach for it but she beats me too it.
"Ah, sorry." The girl apologises, her voice raspy and hoarse, setting the boxes down, tucking it beside the stairs, her now at the bottom and I'm near the top. "Are you okay? I didn't hurt you, did I?" She asks, caringly. I shake my head, smiling at her.
"No, not at all." I answer, she nods her head.
"Looking for a book in particular?" She asks, patting her hands in a short rhythm on her sides.
"Uh, no. Not exactly." I answer, stepping down toward her, stopping at the step above her. "Have you got any recommendations?" I question, she smiles softly.
"Lemme think, uh..." She tuts, resting her hands on her sides before humming, "well, are you interested in epistolary novels?" She asks me, I tilt my head slightly,
"Sorry, this might be dumb. What's epistolary novels?" I question,
"Oh, don't feel ashamed in asking. When I first heard that, I was like 'The fuck is my lecturer on about?'." She jokes, making me laugh. "Basically it's a novel written as a series of letters." She answers,
"I've never tried it." I reply, sincerely.
"Ugh, I know just the book." She answers, "Follow me." she says, holding the sleeve of my long-shirt and directing me upstairs, I smile at the fact she could've held my hand, my wrist, held either or yet decided for my sleeve. She takes me upstairs, towards the back where I see a lot of Penguin Classics as well as Collins Classics. I have more Penguin Classics but I like Collins Classics more. I watch her scan two whole shelves before gasping and picking up a book. Holding it on both sides and smiling widely. "'Letters to Milena' one of the saddest and most amazing epistolary books I've ever read. I recommend this by a mile." She informs me, smiling widely. I open the book, reading the first couple of pages, quickly becoming more and more invested. "Do you like it?" She asks, I glance up at her, biting back a smile before letting myself smile and I nod my head.
"I really do." I reply, "Although, it isn't normally what I'd go for. I'm open to giving this a go." I explain my thoughts to her, she nods her head lightly and begins to direct me toward the tills. "Hey, thanks for showing me this..." I look down at her badge, "Y/n." I thank her,
"No problem...?" She scans the book and I pay for the book, I watch her write something in there and then put the receipt in there. Shutting the book over. She wrote it underneath the title in the wide free space.
"Jenna. Jenna Ortega." I reply, hoping that she doesn't recognise me or at least doesn't announce it.
"Lovely meeting you, Jenna Ortega." She replies, unbothered. Then walks away and heads downstairs, probably to grab the same box and couple of stacked books to put away. I oddly feel sour about that. I follow after her,
