Cairo's POV:
I approach my locker, opening it and begin to move a couple of textbooks into my bag and move textbooks from my bag into my locker. Sorting everything out so that it can be easier for me when going to different classes.
I step back—
I bump into someone, their hand resting on my forearm, stopping me from falling. The back of my body against their front. I look to see who it is, only to see that it is someone unfamiliar. They're wearing a linen shirt, it having a v-neck and the buttons are done, it being tucked it, messily. She wears black tailored trousers and to top it off, black shiny shoes. She's classy, I'll give her that.
I look into her eyes, feeling my eyes soften as my heart drops, starting to beat slowly.
"Shit, are you okay? So sorry." She apologises softly, stroking my forearm with a shy grin in apology. I struggle to find the words to say anything to her, noticing her eyes glance between mines before she lets me go. I immediately feel cold, missing all the warmth she brought me. "Apologies." She tells me, looking further down the hall, my heart slightly acheing as I crave her attention. I clear my throat, glancing at the floor then back at her. My bottom lip slipping between my teeth as my heart begins to flutter and my stomach fills with butterflies.
"It's okay," I dismiss, noticing her eyes lift to meet mines. I immediately look away from her. "are you new? I haven't seen you here before." I confess, unable to hold back my curiosity. I hesitate to meet her eyes again but when I do, my shoulders relax and I feel at ease.
"Yes, I'm new here." The woman answers in response, a slight nod. Her hand itches her right forearm and I notice her veiny hands, her slim, long fingers. Rings on a few of them. I try to stop myself from dropping to my knees right then and there. "Mind showing me where the creative writing room is?" She asks me, stepping closer to me. I inhale sharply, tensing my shoulders the deeper I inhale, exhaling after holding my breath for a few seconds. Her eyes take in the surroundings while my eyes are stuck on her and I sink while exhaling. I nod in agreement.
"Okay." I agree, glancing at her then face ahead. "Uh, just this—" In the corner of my eyes, I see my locker still opened and needing shut. "oh, uh, one second." I say, embarrassed, glancing over at her and shutting my locker, locking it shut and begin to walk down the corridor. She follows after me, her right hand in her pocket. "So, where did you move from?" I ask, curiously, glancing back at her. Trying to make my way through the corridor in a cool and collected way so that she thinks highly of me... yet I don't think she even cares.
"Michigan." She responds, bluntly, glancing at me before looking away from me. I notice now that her natural eyes are cat-like. Wide and alert but also sharp, on edge. Her lips are small and her smile is crooked but her jaw makes up for it. Her diamond shape face pairs beautifully with her shoulder-length, wavy brunette hair. "I'm assuming by your accent you've lived here all of your life?" She asks, leaning her head forward and itching her upper lip with a soft grin. I nod, glancing at her.
"I have, yes." I respond, trying to meet her intellect. Her natural sounding intellectual voice, the voice you hear and immediately are aware of their smarts. "I'm surprised you picked here of all places, I warn you, this time next year, you'll probably dread ever coming here." I confess to her, turning to face her as I stop outside of the classroom.
