"I thought they were supposed to be good?" Malia asked, scowling at the fact Scott had just missed yet another shot.
"Scott is. He's the captain. Stiles is... he always sucks. This is normal." Theo confessed, concerned for Scott's lack of skills but he was still focused on Liam, who hadn't missed a single shot yet.
"Liam is really good." Kira said, sounding anxious. She always sounded anxious. "Do you think he'll replace Scott as captain?"
"If Scott doesn't pull his head out of his ass," Theo grimaced as Scott messed up another easy goal, "yeah easily."
"Laps! I want laps now! Five of them!" Coach yelled, causing the whole potential team to start sprinting around the field. Scott started strong in the front but Liam was close behind. Stiles was, of course, in the back. Theo laughed a little bit. Some things were always predictable.
"Is he a werewolf?" Kira asked, "Are you getting werewolf vibes or something?"
"Okay werewolf finding is different from a gaydar, it's not vibes." Theo rolled his eyes as he responded, "It's a scent thing. I'd have to get closer to him to tell."
"He seems human enough to me." Malia shrugged, "Maybe Scott just sucks now."
They continued watching the group run. Scott and Liam pretty much tied, Scott coming in front by a few seconds. Unlike the entirety of the team, who had collapsed in heaving piles, Liam began to do push ups. Perfect form and fast push ups. Even Scott wasn't that strong, breathing heavily while holding up a vomiting Stiles.
"Alright, we're going to do a defense drill. McCall and Stillinski! You two are on defense." Coach snapped loudly, not willing to give anyone a break. Coach was definitely Theo's favorite teacher.
Stiles and Scott changed into the defender uniform, helmets and longer sticks than usual. Theo reminisced slightly, remembering his own lacrosse days and finding himself wishing for them back. He snapped himself out of it though, his pettiness not willing to let Scott be right about lacrosse.
As the first kid attempted to get past the boys, he was quickly stopped by Scott, Stiles providing back up. Finally, they were back on top. This was what Theo had expected from the beginning, at least from Scott.
"Yes!" Kira yelled, throwing her hands up and squealing. Theo couldn't help but laugh.
"Finally." Malia scoffed, closing her binder and leaning forward to watch the game more intently, interested finally. "I thought they were just gonna suck the whole time."
Player after player ran up and was knocked down by the dynamic duo, earning loud cheers from the three of them and a gathering crowd. Scott and Stiles had become some of the most popular people at school after Scott's rise to captain and Stiles' massive glow up. Theo had always been a more quiet kind of popular, getting lots of girls still but girls weren't really his thing.
"Yes McCall! Get 'em Stillinski!" Coach yelled, pumping his fists and jumping, clearly enthused by the game play he was seeing. Theo could clearly hear him as he grabbed some random student next to him to speak to him. "Those two are like sons to me."
Theo couldn't help but laugh dryly at the comment. Coach's favorites came and went faster than his mood changed, which was quite the statement considering his unpredictable personality. Maybe that's why he missed lacrosse.
"Looks like Liam is up." Malia said, pointing to the field. Theo felt his heart skip a beat as he watched with peaked interest. Liam had that same grin on his face but Theo saw something behind it this time, a level of intensity that meant he was reading their body languages, counting their breaths and plotting out his moves.
