Chapter Thirty Two

"I hate this plan." Melissa wiped her eyes from the tears. They were all circled around Scott's lifeless body and out of all of them, Isaac seemed the most terrified out of all of them. Theo felt his pain but there wasn't much that could be said in the way of comfort. "It's terrifying to see my own son like this."

Noshiko grabbed her hand and placed it over Scott's heart. Theo didn't need to feel Scott's chest to understand that one of the few promised heartbeats came and went. The relief on Melissa's face said it all.

"No one liked this plan but it's the best shot we got." Theo said, looking around. "It might be our only shot."

"Still don't like it." Melissa mumbled before turning to Noshiko again.

"Alright guys, we have forty five minutes to execute this plan." Stiles said, checking his watch. "Actually more like forty but that's not the point. We bring him back right after that."

"What happens?" Isaac asked, still not looking up from Scott's cold body. "What happens after forty five minutes?"

"Kira brings him back." Noshiko said before looking directly into Melissa's eyes. "Or he dies."

The room filled with silence. An unbearable tension at the idea of loosing Scott, their friend, family and alpha. Theo thought about a world with Scott in it and struggled. He was such an important part of his life, practically a brother at this point. 

"We better get on it then." Theo said, clearing his throat at the same time. "Stiles, find Argent and contact the benefactor. Liam and I can set up the cameras if Kira and Isaac get the laptops ready in the room Melissa set aside. I still don't like this plan but we're in a little too deep to go back now."

"Alright." Kira responded as Stiles practically ran out the morgue doors, not wanting to waste another second. Isaac was still frozen to the spot, still staring at Scott. "Isaac? Isaac we need to go."

"Okay." Kira started dragging Isaac away and it was only now that Theo realized he paired Scott's exes into a team. His goal had been to get Isaac away from the corpse of his mate and it was Kira was probably the best with tech. Isaac didn't tear his eyes away from Scott though, not even when the doors closed.

"Stiles will text us when they get a response from the benefactor." Theo said, pulling out a bag filled with cameras. "We just need to set these up."

"What's up with Isaac?" Liam asked, grabbing a camera. "Wasn't he in agreement of this plan?"

"Not really. Pretty sure he wanted to do it instead but Scott's the only one who could survive like this. Plus he's worth the most." Theo clicked his tongue as he grabbed a handful of cameras. He imagined how much Isaac probably begged and pleaded to be the one to 'die' instead of Scott.

"Because he's a true alpha?" Liam hid one of the cameras before going back for another.

"Exactly." Theo realized they needed to place the cameras in lots of different placees. "We need to start walking. Let's go."

Theo barely waited for Liam to catch up as they left the morgue. They were walking in silence, much to Liam's disappointment. He liked talking with Theo, even if he was still recovering from the fact that he'd lied to him within the first few days of them knowing each other. Something in Theo had changed recently and he seemed to dislike Liam, or just not want to be around him.

It made Liam feel sick.

There was nothing he could say to break the silence, his throat feeling dry. Liam settled for staring at Theo who seemed more invested in the cameras and walls than him. He wracked his brain for things that he could've done or said to make Theo hate him but there was nothing he could really think of. Maybe by bringing up mates, Liam had struck a nerve of some kind. His mate might've died or left and Theo just didn't feel like telling him, which made sense. 

"Kira says that the cameras are up and working." Theo had pulled his phone out and was checking a text. "She sent me the room address so we can meet them there."

"Okay coolio." Liam wanted to punch himself in the face. Coolio? Jesus christ, there was definitely something wrong with him.

It killed Liam a little more when the entire walk to the hospital room was the same. Dead silence.

"I'm sorry." Isaac blurted out as they walked down the hall. In the few minutes it took, he'd manage to wake himself out the trance. "For uh..."

"Dude, it's fine." Kira laughed and Isaac thanked the Gods that Kira was the nicest person he'd ever met. "You guys are soulmates-mates. Besides, I did the dumping, not Scott."

"Oh cool. I just don't want it to be like awkward." Isaac realized he made it sound like him and Scott were a thing again which Scott had made very clear, they were not. "Scott and I aren't back together or anything. He hates me anyways."

"I may not be able to smell chemoscents like the rest of you but he doesn't hate you. I can tell." Kira winked at Isaac as they entered the empty room. "He's just upset."

"I'm still sorry for everything. Including being a main reason in the breakup." Isaac awkwardly rubbed the back of his neck as Kira set up the four different laptops. 

"Don't worry about it. Seriously dude, don't." Kira said absentmindfully, "We were together for less than a week. In all honesty, the chase was most of the fun."

"Cool, cool." Isaac really had no idea what to do, leaning over Kira's shoulder to see what she was doing. "Are the cameras set up?"

"Yep, already texted Theo and told him to get his butt up here." Kira grinned widely at Isaac, before realizing this may not have been the best time to be smiling. "Don't worry about Scott. I'll bring him back."

"I know." Isaac was grateful that Kira couldn't hear heartbeats because his definitely skipped a beat as he lied to her. "I know you can."

"We contacted the benefactor!" Stiles burst into the room, panting like a madman, "Argent kind of pissed him off because that's his personality but he's coming. We think."

"You think?" Isaac demanded, "You mean, we're doing all this on a 'we think'? Scott's life is in our hands!"

"We did everything we could man." Stiles was still catching his breath, having clearly run here which was not his strong suit. "We have to trust in the plan."

"Argent just finished setting up the thingy that keeps all the camera signals strong." Kira interrupted them. "Theo and Liam should be here any second."

"Yes we should." Theo said, entering as if he'd been waiting to be mentioned before making an appearance. Liam trailed behind him, looking a little annoyed but mostly concerned. Isaac normally would've cared but he was too stressed.

"Jesus!" Stiles jumped up, landing on Isaac who, thanks to werewolf strength, managed to keep them both standing. "Don't do that man!"

"It was funny though." Theo frowned, thinking at his own words. "Although, now isn't really the best time for jokes."

"No shit sherlock." Stiles muttered, detangling himself with Isaac. "Alright, everything good?"

"Execpt for the fact this plan is incredibly dumb, we're probably all going to die and I think there are a million better plans?" Isaac gave a tight hiss for a breath, "Yeah, we're all good to go."
