"Hello?" Trevor's voice echoes down the hall.I pour my purse out entirely, officially desperate. "In here!"
So, my keys fell off the face of the earth yet again. Not exactly sure where my phone is either. I have a guess about the phone situation. I don't have much of a guess on the keys. Hence the pouring my already packed and ready purse out onto my bed. Digging through it got too frustrating. I felt like I was seeing the same two things over and over.
A low whistle followed by an, "Oh... Wow." breaks me from the hunt. Have you ever looked at something or someone and felt a punch in the chest? In a good way. A sunset so gorgeous or your best friend's smile. Seeing Trevor in my doorway is one of those situations. The way his shirt fits him. The way his pants fit him. His hair being perfectly messy. It's a punch to the chest.
Most of all the way he looks at me is a punch to the chest. His eyes glide up and down a few times, soaking it in. It's not the most extravagant outfit ever. A sleek, black dress. Black strappy heels. But if you know yourself well enough, even the simplest of outfits can look as good as the most extravagant ones.
"I can't find my keys," I say.
"That explains the mess."
"No, actually." I motion to the general mess. "Most of it's from getting ready."
He looks at me again and shakes his head. "Uh. What- What did you say you can't find again?"
"Keys. And phone. Kind of."
"Kind of?"
"Pretty sure it's in the living room."
"I'll go look."
Two minutes after he walks out, his laugh bounces through to my room. What's he laughing at? This isn't a very funny situation. We could be late over this.
"Z?! Find anything?!"
"Yeah!" He calls. "Both of 'em are on the couch out here!"
I rush to put my purse back together and walk out to the living room. My heels make those satisfying click noises on the hardwood. I love dressing up! I love it! It's my favorite. I definitely love Trevor dressed up. He's holding my phone and keys out for me to take.
There's this burning feeling in my chest. I don't know what I'm thinking. Instead of taking the keys, I wrap my arms around his waist in a hug. A small gasp leaves him but he wraps his arms around me, even tighter than I've got him. Which is hard to do if you ask anyone who has ever had the pleasure of hugging me.
"Thanks for coming to this with me," I mumble.
"Of course."
