savannah cohen shot down her steps on an early morning only to see a blonde boy with deep crystal blue eyes stood in her kitchen. "hey." he mumbled.

"yo." savannah gave him a nod. "so you're the criminal?" she gave him a knowing look, like she was obviously joking around with him.

her father had told her last night about his arrival. his name was ryan atwood and had just been released from juvy for stealing a car. he was only staying for the weekend until his probation hearing.

but one thing her dad didn't mention was that he was totally ripped.

"no uh-" ryan stuttered uncomfortably. "ignore her." seth, savannah's brother, rolled his eyes.

"wow look at that, your first friend!" she teased, giving him a light pat on the back. "more than you have." he fake laughed clapping back at her.

"just how i like it." savannah smiled grabbing an apple that seth was about to eat from his hand, taking a bite out of it before running back off upstairs.

"hey, that was mine." seth called out raising his arms in the air.

"who was that?" ryan muttered glancing at the stairs. she'd made quite the first impression. "my sister, savannah." seth told him.

ryan furrowed his brows, "but isn't she-"

"black?" he cut him off. "yeah she's adopted."

savannah had spent her afternoon surfing, like she did most days in the summer. it was something she bonded over with her father since seth and her mother weren't too into it.

"hey, fellas. i thought we'd head over to the fashion show at about seven." sandy, seth and savannah's father, greeted the two boys who were pulling the summer breeze back to shore on the beach.

"yeah, have fun." seth waved him off.

"come on. it's a whole new school year, seth." sandy bargained with his son. seth didn't have any friends. no one at newport really understood him. they were pod people.

"it's also the same kids, dad. why do they even need a fashion show? every day's a fashion show for these people." seth complained.

"you have to go, your sister's in it." sandy informed him getting a chuckle out of seth. "you're gonna have to drag her there kicking and screaming."

"drag me where?" savannah asked walking over to the conversation. she was wearing a bikini as she'd just gotten out of the water.
