the aftermath of thanksgiving weekend lingered in the air, but with the break officially over, the family convened in the kitchen for their morning rituals. the setting sun cast a warm glow through the kitchen window.

savannah sat at the kitchen island, savoring her breakfast as aromatic coffee wafted through the room, where ryan and sandy indulged in their morning brew.

while they were sat, seth, in an embodiment of lethargy, came slouching in, "why aren't you dressed?" savannah furrowed a brow, noticing he was still in his pajamas.

he proceeded to ignore her, groaning as he held his stomach and trudged over to his father, "do i have a fever? i think i might have a fever and or the chills."

savannah shared a knowing look with ryan. he was faking it. "since when?" he questioned, his skepticism evident.

"since recently." seth lied, weaving a tale of newfound ailments. "so, you're not feelin well?" sandy turned around, analyzing his son's condition.

"no, i feel fine." seth sighed, masterfully faking a cough. "just my heads a little bit achy and my stomachs kinda weird." he then dramatically grabbed his stomach, asserting an, "i'm okay."

sandy, playing along, commanded, "c'mere," reaching out to touch his head. seth turned to face him, his eyes briefly meeting ryan and savannah's incredulous looks. "huh, you don't feel warm."

"what about cold or clammy?" seth inquired, earning a head shake from his father.

"maybe you've got, the summer flu." ryan teased, subtly hinting at the name. "yeah, it's november.. but it's possible." seth agreed, trying to ignore his jab.

"maybe you need some anna-biotics." he took it further, raising a brow for emphasis.

"do you not wanna go to school?" sandy finally caught on. "no, no dad, no i wanna go to school, ok!" seth over enthusiastically sold it. "i'm just worried about infecting others."

"no, you're right. we can't take a chance, we should just take you straight to the emergency room, just to be sure." sandy sarcastically suggested.

seth sighed, contemplating his options. "okay...or i could stay home an-an try and sleep it off."

"or you could go to school, face summer and anna, and apologize!" savannah interjected with a raised brow.

"first of all ah no," her brother replied with an exaggerated laugh, his eyes sparkling with mischief, "second of all hmm no, why would i?"
